R. J. Doerr Company LLC
The new owners of this long neglected c.1780 vernacular late Georgian/early Federal era frame farmhouse hired R. J. Doerr to completely restore the interior and exterior and enlarge the existing house. The restoration was as extensive. The home's exterior was stripped, revealing a highly deteriorated mud and log nogged timber frame. Several contemporary and deteriorated Victorian era architectural elements were removed during the restoration to return the house to an appearance in keeping with its original construction. The house's earliest intact architectural features were retained and restored, while numerous missing details were faithfully replicated. New front and rear porches were added to the home to assume the place of long removed originals and the large central and end chimneys that define the house's roofline were completely reconstructed as part of the project.

A new random pattern, full range color bluestone carriage walk allows visitors to approach the home even if a car is parked in the drive. The existing drive was sawcut, and a tumbled limestone band was added to signal arrival for vehicles.

James Hardie siding project in Beverly Hills. This home's front porch had two ordinary 4" x 4" posts and no beam between the two posts. We created 10" x 10" Miratec columns with 12" x 12" bases and twin 2" collar wraps. To give further strength to the entryway, we built 8" x 8" Miratec beams to tie the larger columns into the wide ceiling.
Adding a touch of warmth, we installed a clear fir tongue & groove beaded porch ceiling with one coat of Natural Tone Redwood Olympic # 717 semi-transparent stain, finished off with 3 coats of satin finish urethane. Looking closely, you'll also notice the stained trim to the perimeter of the ceiling to match.
Finally, take notice of the Bronze color seamless aluminum gutters and downspouts installed on this home. This particular color gives the appearance of a well-seasoned copper gutter - one that has been installed for dozens of years and has come to its full and stable patina finish. The house numbers were chosen in the same bronze finish to complete the look.
