Architecture and interior design go hand in hand. Our highest priority is the quality of the space and The Retreat presented unique design opportunities. Bathed in natural light, the shower, which includes a re-circulating waterfall, occupies the center of the room, wrapped in cedar. The “tree”, which represents the earth, envelops water, the source of life. The remaining functions line the perimeter of the room.
All the materials in the room are sustainable in accordance with current practices. The furniture is sustainable. The fabrics are sustainable. Even the art is sustainable! There is no excess, just the necessary components to create an inviting and comfortable environment to promote relaxation and well-being.
Simple, clean, and contemporary, the Retreat is a place to unwind, take a nap, read, meditate – whichever your favorite way to relieve stress – indoors.

Black Woodworks
We built this kitchen for a very environmentally-conscious client in Madison, Wisconsin. All of the wood used was from Wisconsin, all of the plywood used was Pure-Bond (formaldehyde-free), and we used 100% Tung Oil as a finish. For a cozy little ranch, this open and airy kitchen is now the true heart of the home. Design and Contracting credits go to Lesley Sager of Sager Designs of Madison. Please see her website at www.sager-designs.com.

The media room features a wool sectional and a pair of vintage Milo Baughman armchairs reupholstered in a snappy green velvet. All upholstered items were made with natural latex cushions wrapped in organic wool in order to eliminate harmful chemicals for our eco and health conscious clients (who were passionate about green interior design). An oversized table functions as a desk or a serving table when our clients entertain large parties.

Interior Art
Faux Finished Garage Door: Our client wanted to give her house a face lift. This old-style door was just plywood underneath all the paints and glazes. Heavy duty exterior clear coats to protect this beautiful finish, and voila! It worked. This is one of my favorite eco-friendly solutions to transforming the look of something. Why throw away when a few buckets of paints and glazes can create so much! We say Yes to Eco-Friendly.
Please visit our project files for more views into what can be done in the backdrops of fine design with special finishes, faux painting, wall glazing, trompe l'oeil artwork, gilding, venetian plasters and so much more. Blue Sound Construction, Inc.
This Seattle remodel of a Greenlake house involved lifting the original Sears Roebuck home 12 feet in the air and building a new basement and 1st floor, remodeling much of the original third floor. The kitchen features an eat-in nook and cabinetry that makes the most of a small space. This home was featured in the Eco Guild's Green Building Slam, Eco Guild's sponsored remodel tour, and has received tremendous attention for its conservative, sustainable approach. Constructed by Blue Sound Construction, Inc, Designed by Make Design, photographed by Aaron Leitz Photography.
Dream Kitchens, Inc.
The goal of the project was to create a more functional kitchen, but to remodel with an eco-friendly approach. To minimize the waste going into the landfill, all the old cabinetry and appliances were donated, and the kitchen floor was kept intact because it was in great condition. The challenge was to design the kitchen around the existing floor and the natural soapstone the client fell in love with. The clients continued with the sustainable theme throughout the room with the new materials chosen: The back splash tiles are eco-friendly and hand-made in the USA.. The custom range hood was a beautiful addition to the kitchen. We maximized the counter space around the custom sink by extending the integral drain board above the dishwasher to create more prep space. In the adjacent laundry room, we continued the same color scheme to create a custom wall of cabinets to incorporate a hidden laundry shoot, and dog area. We also added storage around the washer and dryer including two different types of hanging for drying purposes.

CHATHAM MARSHVIEW HOUSE
This Cape Cod green home provides a destination for visiting family, support of a snowbird lifestyle, and an expression of the homeowner’s energy conscious values.
Looking over the salt marsh with Nantucket Sound in the distance, this new home offers single level living to accommodate aging in place, and a strong connection to the outdoors. The homeowners can easily enjoy the deck, walk to the nearby beach, or spend time with family, while the house works to produce nearly all the energy it consumes. The exterior, clad in the Cape’s iconic Eastern white cedar shingles, is modern in detailing, yet recognizable and familiar in form.

2014 ASID Legacy of Design 2nd Place award Contemporary Space. This study was built with a tall ceiling, so we had molding placed around the walls two thirds of the way up and selected a textural grasscloth for the lower portion in order to draw the eye down from the ceiling. Warm shades of taupe for the remaining part of the walls and ceiling make the room cozy and intimate. Another layer of texture was added with the geometric hand crafted hair on hide rug, and we selected contemporary but inviting furniture with custom fabrics, and a soft throw pillow. Perhaps the highlight of the room, we chose to use bookcases upholstered in a gray velvet and enhanced with nickel nail head trim. Custom artwork was sourced especially for the room to enhance the color palette and draw out the golden yellow in the desk chair fabric. Window treatments were not needed, since the doors wash the space with beautiful natural light.
