Given a challenging lot configuration and topography, along with privacy issues, we had to get creative in designing this home. The home is divided into four basic living zones: private owner’s suite, informal living area, kids area upstairs, and a flexible guest entertaining area. The entry is unique in that it takes you directly through to the outdoor living area, and also provides separation of the owners’ private suite from the rest of the home. There are no formal living or dining areas; instead the breakfast and family rooms were enlarged to entertain more comfortably in an informal manner. One great feature of the detached casita is that it has a lower activity area, which helps the house connect to the property below. This contemporary haven in Barton Creek is a beautiful example of a chic and elegant design that creates a very practical and informal space for living.

Custom Grabill appliance panels were used on a 30” Thermador refrigerator and a 24” freezer, giving the look of a unified hidden pantry. An open hutch above was incorporated to allow for display space within the kitchen, illuminated with puck lighting. A Thermador rangetop with a custom hood creates a focal point within one area of the perimeter, while a Bella Casa Farm Sink allows for a second focal point in the perimeter.

the great room was enlarged to the south - past the medium toned wood post and beam is new space. the new addition helps shade the patio below while creating a more usable living space. To the right of the new fireplace was the existing front door. Now there is a graceful seating area to welcome visitors. The wood ceiling was reused from the existing home.

This ensuite girl’s bathroom doubles as a family room guest bath. Our focus was to create an environment that was somewhat feminine but yet very neutral. The unlacquered brass finishes combined with lava rock flooring and neutral color palette creates a durable yet elegant atmosphere to this compromise.

The brick found in the backsplash and island was chosen for its sympathetic materiality that is forceful enough to blend in with the native steel, while the bold, fine grain Zebra wood cabinetry coincides nicely with the concrete floors without being too ostentatious.

Curvacious. Continuous. Light. An elegant architectural staircase in a European influenced contemporary home.
The light is captured effortlessly as it moves across the plaster warming the color palette and coincides with the reclaimed white oak and limestone on the exterior of the house.
The flooring is 2 1/4" but varies with widths and patterns throughout the house topped with the Rubio monicoat stain.
The overhead light fixture is a custom Carlton Edwards design fabricated in Memphis.
On either side of the custom iron and brass console table are paneled jambs that lead into the dining room. Charcoal metallic paint finish coincides and compliments the iron railing and steel doors in the formal salon beyond.
