ARCO Arquitectura Contemporánea
Project description:
This house is located inside of the Lomas Country development in Mexico City that has an excellent golf course. It is situated in one of the areas with more economic growth in the last years, but the design allows maintaining the needed privacy to have security and tranquility for the residents. The site of the house is privileged and surrounded by a fantastic landscape.
The remodel project for this house was a big challenge that combined the integration of in and outdoors with important alterations to make a warmth and contemporary ambiance for the whole space. There was also a modification on the architectural program to add a bedroom. The original design had great windows that were left to make the most of the views and have natural light.
The main façade had important changes to give more privacy. Some elements were added to restrict the access inside the premises. The garage was modified with a T shape metal structure and a canopy also made in metal. Two columns made of archeological stone were also incorporated to have a geometrical composition in front of the large windows.
The main access has a corridor with a water mirror that runs towards the house and communicates vertically -with a window that was placed on the façade- to enhance the invitation to this peaceful space. The combination between elements and materials in the exterior resulted in the new image the house required and a perfect balance between harmony, sensibility and warmth.
The interior has generous double height spaces, which combined with the grand windows in both facades, give excellent natural light and views. The staircase leads to a bridge that separates the public and private areas. Towards one end of the bridge the main bedroom is located and to the other the rest of the bedrooms and a family room.
The finishes selected for the interiors keep the coherence with the combination of materials used in the exterior, as well as it attains excellent contrast in all the spaces. Materials such as marble, wood, glass and some metallic elements, stand out going around the splendid interiors of the house.
One of the most attractive spaces is the living-dining area. In the living room the double height and grand windows direct the view straight to the back garden and the lake. In this space the harmony was achieved with the perfect selection of colors for the walls, as well as the shades of wood and drape materials that is complemented with a precise lighting design. The space is divided by a chimney that frames the entrance to the dining room. The furniture was selected according to the activities done in this area and to highlight the contemporary atmosphere of the whole project.

The brief throughout was a need for practicality, and light. With that in mind, we created an intelligent, clean design that didn't run away with itself.

In the master bedroom, Weiss strikes a harmonious balance between serenity and eye-popping color.
Like the rest of the furnishings throughout the loft, Weiss carried these pieces over from her previous home and regrouped them as the new space dictated. "At this stage I am not really looking for anything [new] in particular," Weiss states. "When I respond to something I usually end up keeping it forever."

As a cottage, the Ridgecrest was designed to take full advantage of a property rich in natural beauty. Each of the main houses three bedrooms, and all of the entertaining spaces, have large rear facing windows with thick craftsman style casing. A glance at the front motor court reveals a guesthouse above a three-stall garage. Complete with separate entrance, the guesthouse features its own bathroom, kitchen, laundry, living room and bedroom. The columned entry porch of the main house is centered on the floor plan, but is tucked under the left side of the homes large transverse gable. Centered under this gable is a grand staircase connecting the foyer to the lower level corridor. Directly to the rear of the foyer is the living room. With tall windows and a vaulted ceiling. The living rooms stone fireplace has flanking cabinets that anchor an axis that runs through the living and dinning room, ending at the side patio. A large island anchors the open concept kitchen and dining space. On the opposite side of the main level is a private master suite, complete with spacious dressing room and double vanity master bathroom. Buffering the living room from the master bedroom, with a large built-in feature wall, is a private study. Downstairs, rooms are organized off of a linear corridor with one end being terminated by a shared bathroom for the two lower bedrooms and large entertainment spaces.

Living room - huge transitional open concept dark wood floor and brown floor living room idea in Salt Lake City with gray walls, a standard fireplace, a stone fireplace and a concealed tv
Joseph B Lanza Design + Building
For this house overlooking a salt water pond, my clients wanted a cozy little cottage, but one with an open floor plan, large public rooms, a sizable eat-in kitchen, four bedrooms, three and a half baths, and a den. To create this big house in a small package, we drew upon the Cape Cod tradition with a series of volumes stepping back along the edge of the coastal bank. From the street the house appears as a classic half Cape, but what looks like the main house is only the master suite. The two “additions” that appear behind it contain most of the house.
The main entry is from the small farmer’s porch into a surprisingly spacious vaulted stair hall lit by a doghouse dormer and three small windows running up along the stair. The living room, dining room and kitchen are all open to each other, but defined by columns, ceiling beams and the substantial kitchen island. Large windows and glass doors at the back of the house provide views of the water.
Upstairs are three more bedrooms including a second master suite with its own fireplace. The extensive millwork, trim, interior doors, paneling, ceiling treatments, stairs, railings and cabinets were all built on site. The construction of the kitchen was the subject of an article in Fine Homebuilding magazine.

Orderly function and clean, adaptable style converge in this Yarmouth, Maine, kitchen. The open layout is inviting and intrinsically designed for easy traffic flow and meal prep. Unfinished wood columns and beadboard pair tastefully with charcoal black granite countertops and touches of stainless steel, while a separate pantry offers extra storage and work space.

This cozy lake cottage skillfully incorporates a number of features that would normally be restricted to a larger home design. A glance of the exterior reveals a simple story and a half gable running the length of the home, enveloping the majority of the interior spaces. To the rear, a pair of gables with copper roofing flanks a covered dining area that connects to a screened porch. Inside, a linear foyer reveals a generous staircase with cascading landing. Further back, a centrally placed kitchen is connected to all of the other main level entertaining spaces through expansive cased openings. A private study serves as the perfect buffer between the homes master suite and living room. Despite its small footprint, the master suite manages to incorporate several closets, built-ins, and adjacent master bath complete with a soaker tub flanked by separate enclosures for shower and water closet. Upstairs, a generous double vanity bathroom is shared by a bunkroom, exercise space, and private bedroom. The bunkroom is configured to provide sleeping accommodations for up to 4 people. The rear facing exercise has great views of the rear yard through a set of windows that overlook the copper roof of the screened porch below.

This Spanish Peaks residence was designed around views of Mt. Wilson, as well as to not disturb wetlands located on site. Geothermal heating is used in this project, tapping into a great source of alternative energy that this region of Southwestern Montana has to offer. The main spaces in the home are arranged in an open-concept plan, with the great room, dining room, and kitchen all connected. A radial fireplace anchors one corner, opening 180º to the great room, as well as to an exterior courtyard. The other corner holds a circular staircase, which is also open to the spaces below, adding a unique detail to the room.
A staggered garage plan breaks up the typical mass of the space, and a simple palette of materials aids the building in complementing the site.
TCP Custom Outdoor Living
This modern freestanding pool house is a little over 500 square feet. We created this space to allow for entertaining outdoors and relaxing by the pool, as well as giving this homeowner a great backyard view. There is plenty of room for the kitchen and hang out area.
We poured a concrete base that we then covered with light walnut travertine. We also added travertine pavers to transition from the pool to the new space.
The structure includes smooth stucco finish on the walls, stone based columns and an outdoor shower. The space couldn’t be complete without the 2 TVs with built-in overhead speakers.
The kitchen area includes an 18 foot counter area with leathered colonial cream granite and stone that matches the columns.
There is a FireMagic Diamond 660i 30 inch grill, fridge, side burner and a sink with hot water. There is plenty of storage and a great pull-out trash drawer. The raised bar top area gives plenty of seating for that snack after swimming.
The bathroom is a clean and bright area with a walk-in shower that has frameless glass doors. The vanity is custom built with the same granite as the kitchen area. The floor and wall tile is from Floor and Décor. The door is a Pella door. And, for those extremely hot summer days, it is a great place to go because it is air conditioned!
To complete the space, the customer chose Haiku fans from Big Ass Fans – clean lines, 7 speeds, and so very super quiet you can’t even really hear them running. The homeowner hung some shades to pull down at that certain time of day when you need a little extra shade!

The living room is filled with natural light, and fitted out with custom cabinetry for book and art display. The galley kitchen opens onto a dining area with a cushioned banquette along the window wall. New wide plank oak floors from LV wood run throughout the apartment, and the kitchen features quiet modern cabinetry and geometric tile patterns.

Situated on a three-acre Intracoastal lot with 350 feet of seawall, North Ocean Boulevard is a 9,550 square-foot luxury compound with six bedrooms, six full baths, formal living and dining rooms, gourmet kitchen, great room, library, home gym, covered loggia, summer kitchen, 75-foot lap pool, tennis court and a six-car garage.
A gabled portico entry leads to the core of the home, which was the only portion of the original home, while the living and private areas were all new construction. Coffered ceilings, Carrera marble and Jerusalem Gold limestone contribute a decided elegance throughout, while sweeping water views are appreciated from virtually all areas of the home.
The light-filled living room features one of two original fireplaces in the home which were refurbished and converted to natural gas. The West hallway travels to the dining room, library and home office, opening up to the family room, chef’s kitchen and breakfast area. This great room portrays polished Brazilian cherry hardwood floors and 10-foot French doors. The East wing contains the guest bedrooms and master suite which features a marble spa bathroom with a vast dual-steamer walk-in shower and pedestal tub
The estate boasts a 75-foot lap pool which runs parallel to the Intracoastal and a cabana with summer kitchen and fireplace. A covered loggia is an alfresco entertaining space with architectural columns framing the waterfront vistas.
