Tired of seeing the same old shit? I sure am.
Why does every kitchen on this website look like it came out of a catalog, all shiny and fake, never used? No character, no history. Just shit you buy online and screw to the wall. Aren't these kitchens a little ostentatious? Like kitchens for people with too many houses. Why? Because it's all bullshit. These kitchens aren't being shown off here because they feed people. All they feed is the ego. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a commie. I'm not saying people should eat for free. Heck, I hate the homeless. Anyway, our kitchen feeds people. It's the backbone of a new program of sustainability. Teaching the children to care for the land and the food they grow. Food is work and work is food. I'm not sayin' you should feel guilty spending $500 bucks on a blender when 48.1 million Americans live in food-insecure households, including more than 15 million children. I'm just sayin' if you're gonna build somethin' do it with integrity and good taste. Trust yourself (not that I do that). Don't just regurgitate what you see in catalogs ( I steal shit right outta the book). Don't just follow your dreams. Anybody can do that. Live the myth, that's what we do.
When remodeling it seems people put all the good shit in a dumpster and all the lame shit on display. First thing we do is get in that dumpster!
Q: Like you're really gonna throw out that cool 1950's towel bar and install some piece of Chinese crap from #RestorationHardware instead?
A: If that's how you think, don't hire us.
Doughboys: We don't do smartphones, we don't do texting, faxes, memos, GPS, iPads, Facebook or Tweeting. We won't design a garage for your toaster and we don't trust microwave ovens. And finally, next time you're trying to figure out how to turn the damn lights off in your fancy kitchen, remember the Doughboys motto; we think intelligent lighting is stupid.

Revolutionary in function and design; the Galley Sink will become the most useful space in your kitchen - in fact, the smaller the kitchen, the more important the Galley Sink work station becomes!
The Galley Sink is engineered with 16 gauge stainless steel, double sound insulated, with an angel hair finish (best for clean up and resistant to water spots!). The two tiered design allows the custom accessories on the bottom tier to maneuver out of the way, without having to be removed from the sink. You can even create more counter space by placing the cutting boards completely across the upper tier.
Fill the entire sink with ice (or use the in sink divider) for use as an ice buffet to serve drinks, chilled food and condiments. Imagine food preparation, serving, and clean up all in one convenient space.

What was once an unfinished basement is now a perfect getaway and space to entertain. The main focus is the projection screen and cozy couches for the family to gather and watch movies in surround sound. Just a few feet away, a kitchenette provides some refreshments and food. This space also allows plenty of room to throw a party and this kitchenette can store lots of food and drink.
Down the hall we have a rec room with a ping pong table. Across from that is a gym so the homeowners can continue to live a healthy lifestyle.
On the other side of the basement there is a playroom that can easily double as a guest room. It's a great spot for the kids to play and keep their toys all in one place. Next door is a "jack and jill" bathroom that is appropriate for all ages. Walk in the door and you'll be wowed by the mosaic tile accent that greets you from inside the shower.
We're happy to hear the family is enjoying the space and have enjoyed a few parties!

Ahhh, these awesome shelves! We love them! We actually had to have these fittings made, just to fit the slight overhang on the countertop. We adore the way our clients are using this, to display their dish ware and special pieces. The walnut cabinet in the background was designed with our clients daughter in mind, who loves to bake, so the cabinetry is suited to fit all her baking essentials and the cabinet above it hides the slide out mixer.

DC Area's High-End Custom Landscape Design Build Firm

This was a dream project! The clients purchased this 1880s home and wanted to renovate it for their family to live in. It was a true labor of love, and their commitment to getting the details right was admirable. We rehabilitated doors and windows and flooring wherever we could, we milled trim work to match existing and carved our own door rosettes to ensure the historic details were beautifully carried through.
Every finish was made with consideration of wanting a home that would feel historic with integrity, yet would also function for the family and extend into the future as long possible. We were not interested in what is popular or trendy but rather wanted to honor what was right for the home.

Edible landscaping encompasses much more then adding some veggie beds to one’s property. Creative layouts and material usage can incorporate year-round vegetable harvests in an aesthetically pleasing way. Perennial fruit trees, along with bushes and herbs, create a lush space full of beautiful, colors, textures, smells and tastes. Searching out and experimenting with different and rare varieties of edible plants keeps home gardens interesting. Edible landscaping gives access to food at its freshest, when it is most nutritious, and offers many more options than supermarket produce sections—also cutting down on transportation and packaging impacts. From edible estates to food forests, or simple integration of garden-based food production, Sweet Smiling Landscapes has the knowledge and experience to help home owners harvest their own bounty.
