Horizon Homes
The award-winning Jack’s Point is our new display home at the HomeQuest Village in Bella Vista. At the 2023 HIA awards, Horizon Homes won both Display Home of the Year, and Best Display Home in its category - Display Homes over $1m.
When we built this home, we wanted a design that would be contemporary, but still fit comfortably in the traditional style streetscapes of the suburbs that we typically build in – the North Shore, Northern Beaches and Canada Bay areas.
The natural finishes of timber, stone and metal gives this home an organic look and feel. The façade design and finishes provide the beautiful mix of material choices. Modern brickwork meshes with charred hardwood timber cladding, castellated style garage door, and a first-floor natural garden bed.
Natural American Oak timber flooring leads from the entry lead to the lounge, which features an impressive yet functional wall-hung fireplace with an exposed metal flue.
The staircase provides a wonderful aesthetic but also acts to create distinct spaces in an otherwise open space. It is constructed from American Oak treads, steel and glass and allows natural light through to the living areas.
Large format porcelain tiles provide a seamless finish to the remaining living areas and carry through to the alfresco kitchen and dining area.
The kitchen and pantry provide beautifully finished modern workspaces with the mix of marble / granite and Corian finishes. The marble fluting on the island ends elevates the benchtop from the purely practical, to an elegant design feature.
As with all Horizon Homes builds, the alfresco area was important. It has been designed to enhance natural light in the home, as well as providing flexible living spaces. The upper floor comprises of four bedrooms, main bathrooms, two ensuites and a private lounge space adjacent to the master bedroom. This overlooks the rooftop garden bed. The feature panelling to all bedrooms and hallway that so caught the judges’ attention provide this home with the warm cosy feel.
Like all of our custom designs, the display home was designed to maximise quality light, airflow and space for the block it was built on. We invite you to visit Jack’s Point and we hope it inspires some ideas for your own custom home.

Minett Studio Architecture and Design
Parkdale Contemporary Barn is a decade-long collection of ideas and styles that have been tested and collected through many different projects. Having the opportunity to design our own Minett Studio home for our family provided a wonderful opportunity to be playful and experiment with different colours and textures that traditionally our clients have been a little reluctant to try. Each room has its own character and colour play, an experience of joy as you engage with each space differently. The colours and materials palette as a whole work well together and bring harmony and peace to the home in its entirety. The Laundry? Bootsroom is a cool grey-blue with patterned tiles and Milky Zellige herringbone splashback, a Nod to country style. The Barn is sophisticated and a little more masculine with the Black Oak Shaker cabinets and striking Matazarro Marble from Brazil. The appliances are stainless steel with an oversized Falcon range showing that this is a Cooks Kitchen and ready for some serious entertaining. The Children's bedrooms are a soft Blue for quiet reflection and the master suite is warm with board and batten detailing, rich walnuts and soft limestone. The Powder Room is Ming Green Pickets and swirled Corian to provide movement and texture with backlit mirrors for moody appeal.
The floorplan and layout were carefully considered, refreshing an existing 1960's clinker brick home with a T shape plan into a contemporary and sustainable home for a new era. By keeping as much of the existing home as possible and inserting the new L shape Barn and Master wing, brought together the two styles and merged them seamlessly together. Providing a sense that the home is timeless and lived in rather than cavernous and cold as some new homes can be with everything shiny and new. The garden was re-imaged with Perennials and Tree plantings, soft creeping textures and formal buxus balls to re-create a country cottage garden feel. Everyone who enters the home is taken aback by the proportions and atmosphere, warm, inviting and designed for human scale, for conversation, quiet time and family gatherings. A refuge from the busy world. Home is really our sanctuary like never before.

Storage spaces are multiplied in this straight-line composition that includes tall units and cupboards, folding-door wall units and a glass-fronted “sideboard”. The design of the new metal hood is original, as is the concept of the breakfast bar: an Absolute White Oak element with drawers and baskets, fitted with Arenite Pietra laminate work-top, from which the snacktop (Indian Black Quarz) with its stools extends. The carcase is in Aluminium Grey painted metal. Frame door with panel veneered in scav 691 cherry. Frame door in scav 691 cherry with fabric effect glass.
