Keeping the exterior simple, the thin white brick base of the home contrasts the Sho Sugi Ban second-story exterior. Furthermore, the gable roof mimics the traditional Scandinavian home profile that is notorious for simplicity.

Moen Brantford chrome fixtures add a contemporary flair to this transitional owner's bath. The frameless glass door adds elegance. White and gray tones combine harmoniously to create a soothing clean look. The floor tile is Daltile 12x12 Florentine Carrera, the shower surround walls are Daltile 10x14 Florentine Carrera, Vanity is Allen Painted Oak Vanity in Flint by Mid Continent. Counterops are 1.5" thick cultured marble in bright white with a beveled edge. Walls are Sherwin Williams Paint #7029 ‘Agreeable Gray’. Light fixtures are Progress Gather in Chrome. Naturals Seaglass Culture Brick made for a simple, modern kitchen backsplash and gave the room a touch of color. In the first bathroom, 12x24 Curl Silver Glazed Decorative tile created a perfect accent wall, along with Time 2.0 Silver field tiles and mosaics in the shower. The second bathroom boasts 6x36 Crag Castle Tea Sand on the walls, Perfect Interlocking Pebbles on the shower floor, and 12x24 Crag Castle Tea Sand on the bathroom floor.

Inspired by their trip to Germany, the clients desired a home reminiscent of their roots, thus the home boasts a distinctive red roof. This early Dutch colonial house takes in 180° views of the Hudson River and, drawing on the location of the site, the turret was designed by Daniel Contelmo with a lighthouse in mind. The lanthorn perched atop the roof addressed a unique aspect of the homeowners' lives; the client is a pilot, and his approach to the runway is directly over his house. The lanthorn, easily seen from above, marks his home. The colonial has a bent layout, conforming to the natural contours of the knoll overlooking the Hudson River and the mountains of the opposite shore. The design addressed the historical as well as the natural environment of the location; the house sits adjacent to an original 1879 schoolhouse, so special attention was paid to the architecture so that it integrated with the rich historical area.

This master suite features cultural artifacts with a touch of art deco design elements and a splash of eclectic flare. The master bathroom is separated from the master bedroom by a double access fireplace that features a free standing, contemporary tub on one side and is flanked by display bookcases on other side. “His” and “Her” vanities, each separately tucked away on either side of the fireplace, exhibit hand blown glass vessel sink bowls. This client requested efficient general, task and accent lighting. They also required additional toiletry and linen storage as well as a sit down vanity area to apply make-up and fix her hair. This master suite boasts high, angled ceilings with windows that provide excellent daylight, but the lack of ceiling space to place lighting for night time was in-efficient. The foundation height through-out this master suite varies and with the lack of lighting at night time, poses a huge safety concern for this client. The rigid configuration of this bathroom also created a lack of storage. To bring in some general lighting throughout the bedroom and bathroom, a series of cable lighting with MR16 lamps run parallel to each vanity. These lamps operate on separate switches and dimmers to allow the client to fully control the light level. The flooring in the bathroom was leveled so that the change in height only occurred in one area, not in multiple spaces. Leveling out the floor also allowed us to maximize the storage.
