Black and white carry throughout this crisp powder room: black and white marble floor tiles, black and white graphic wallpaper, and a black and white double wall sconce. Elegant white bathroom fixtures, including the pedestal sink, and a long narrow silver framed rectangular mirror bring additional brightness to this small powder room.
WKD’s experience in historic preservation and antique curation restored this gentleman’s farm into a casual, comfortable, livable home for the next chapter in this couple’s lives.
The project included a new family entrance and mud room, new powder room, and opening up some of the rooms for better circulation. While WKD curated the client’s existing collection of art and antiques, refurbishing where necessary, new furnishings were also added to give the home a new lease on life.
Working with older homes, and historic homes, is one of Wilson Kelsey Design’s specialties.

This salvaged kitchen sink was found awhile ago by the client who new she wanted to use it if ever she renovated. Integrated beautifully into the Danby marble countertop and backsplash with new fixtures it is a real joy to clean up.
This kitchen was formerly a dark paneled, cluttered, divided space with little natural light. By eliminating partitions and creating an open floorplan, as well as adding modern windows with traditional detailing, providing lovingly detailed built-ins for the clients extensive collection of beautiful dishes, and lightening up the color palette we were able to create a rather miraculous transformation.

With a major wall removed this space is transformed from a living room to a living floor where different activities connect. The far wall is clad in a sugar cane based paneling painted in high gloss that unifies the space and provides understated texture. By Studio Becker Los Angeles- Sleekly styled condo with a spectacular view provides a spacious, uniquely modern living environment. Asian influenced shoji screen tastefully conceals the laundry facilities. This one bedroom condo ingeniously sleeps five; the custom designed art wall – featuring an image of rock legend Kurt Cobain – transforms into a double bed, additional shelves and a single bed! With a nod to Hollywood glamour, the master bath is pure luxury marble tile, waterfall sink effect and Planeo cabinetry in a white lacquer.

Kati Curtis Design completely gutted the existing bathroom to give it a more updated look and feel. Glass wall tiles and a new stone floor add just the right amount of sparkle and interest. A wall of decoupage plates from John Derian add interest and color.

This private office on the first floor is designed as an inner sanctum for the businessman who lives in the home. Deep gray/green upholstered walls and a complimentary colored carpet set off both the polished walnut mill work and the bold art work.

An existing house was deconstructed to make room for 7200 SF of new ground up construction including a main house, pool house, and lanai. This hillside home was built through a phased sequence of extensive excavation and site work, complicated by a single point of entry. Site walls were built using true dry stacked stone and concrete retaining walls faced with sawn veneer. Sustainable features include FSC certified lumber, solar hot water, fly ash concrete, and low emitting insulation with 75% recycled content.

Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink. Although this kitchen had ample cabinets and countertops, none of it was functional. Tall appliances divided what would have been a functional run of counters. The cooktop was placed at the end of a narrow island. The walk-in pantry jutted into the kitchen reducing the walkspace of the only functional countertop to 36”. There was not enough room to work and still have a walking area behind. Dark corners and cabinets with poor storage rounded out the existing kitchen.
Removing the walk in pantry opened the kitchen and made the adjoining utility room more functional. The space created by removing the pantry became a functional wall of appliances featuring:
• 30” Viking Freezer
• 36” Viking Refrigerator
• 30” Wolf Microwave
• 30” Wolf warming drawer
To minimize a three foot ceiling height change, a custom Uberboten was built to create a horizontal band keeping the focus downward. The Uberboten houses recessed cans and three decorative light fixtures to illuminate the worksurface and seating area.
The Island is functional from all four sides:
• Elevation F: functions as an eating bar for two and as a buffet counter for large parties. Countertop: Ceasarstone Blue Ridge
• Elevation G: 30” deep coffee bar with beverage refrigerator. Custom storage for flavored syrups and coffee accoutrements. Access to the water with the pull out Elkay faucet makes filling the espresso machine a cinch! Countertop: Ceasarstone Canyon Red
• Elevation H: holds the Franke sink, and a cabinet with popup mixer hardware. Countertop: 4” thick endgrain butcherblock maple countertop
• Elevation I: 42” tall and 30” deep cabinets hold a second Wolf oven and a built-in Franke scale Countertop: Ceasarstone in Blue Ridge
The Range Elevation (Elevation B) has 27” deep countertops, the trash compactor, recycling, a 48” Wolf range. Opposing counter surfaces flank of the range:
• Left: Ceasarstone in Canyon Red
• Right: Stainless Steel.
• Backsplash: Copper
What originally was a dysfunctional desk that collected EVERYTHING, now is an attractive, functional 21” deep pantry that stores linen, food, serving pieces and more. The cabinet doors were made from a Zebra-wood-look-alike melamine, the gain runs both horizontally and vertically for a custom design. The end cabinet is a 12” deep message center with cork-board backing and a small work space. Storage below houses phone books and the Lumitron Graphic Eye that controls the light fixtures.
Design Details:
• An Icebox computer to the left of the main sink
• Undercabinet lighting: Xenon
• Plug strip eliminate unsightly outlets in the backsplash
• Cabinets: natural maple accented with espresso stained alder.

The couple really wanted to give the property an open plan contemporary feel to create a large family kitchen, dining room and lounge perfect to entertain in.
A great space saving Utility area in the kitchen was designed with a curved wall to make the space flow. A clever pocket door which slides into the wall enabled the space to be just wide enough to fit a washing machine, dryer and shelving to create a walk in pantry area. The shaope is complimented by mirroring the curved wall on the breakfast bar, which gives a soft flowing feel when you enter the kitchen.
A large island at the centre of the kitchen houses the Hob and Sink. The low ceiling height was quite a challenge so a Downdraught extractor was fitted which comes out of the worktop. This works very efficiently and keeps the streamlined open feel to the room.
The couple have kept some of the original features including the fireplace where they have installed a log burning stove. The fridges and ovens have been designed either side of this.

Previously used as an office, this space had an awkwardly placed window to the left of the fireplace. By removing the window and building a bookcase to match the existing, the room feels balanced and symmetrical. Panel molding was added (by the homeowner!) and the walls were lacquered a deep navy. Bold modern green lounge chairs and a trio of crystal pendants make this cozy lounge next level. A console with upholstered ottomans keeps cocktails at the ready while adding two additional seats.

This 1910 West Highlands home was so compartmentalized that you couldn't help to notice you were constantly entering a new room every 8-10 feet. There was also a 500 SF addition put on the back of the home to accommodate a living room, 3/4 bath, laundry room and back foyer - 350 SF of that was for the living room. Needless to say, the house needed to be gutted and replanned.
Kitchen+Dining+Laundry-Like most of these early 1900's homes, the kitchen was not the heartbeat of the home like they are today. This kitchen was tucked away in the back and smaller than any other social rooms in the house. We knocked out the walls of the dining room to expand and created an open floor plan suitable for any type of gathering. As a nod to the history of the home, we used butcherblock for all the countertops and shelving which was accented by tones of brass, dusty blues and light-warm greys. This room had no storage before so creating ample storage and a variety of storage types was a critical ask for the client. One of my favorite details is the blue crown that draws from one end of the space to the other, accenting a ceiling that was otherwise forgotten.
Primary Bath-This did not exist prior to the remodel and the client wanted a more neutral space with strong visual details. We split the walls in half with a datum line that transitions from penny gap molding to the tile in the shower. To provide some more visual drama, we did a chevron tile arrangement on the floor, gridded the shower enclosure for some deep contrast an array of brass and quartz to elevate the finishes.
Powder Bath-This is always a fun place to let your vision get out of the box a bit. All the elements were familiar to the space but modernized and more playful. The floor has a wood look tile in a herringbone arrangement, a navy vanity, gold fixtures that are all servants to the star of the room - the blue and white deco wall tile behind the vanity.
Full Bath-This was a quirky little bathroom that you'd always keep the door closed when guests are over. Now we have brought the blue tones into the space and accented it with bronze fixtures and a playful southwestern floor tile.
Living Room & Office-This room was too big for its own good and now serves multiple purposes. We condensed the space to provide a living area for the whole family plus other guests and left enough room to explain the space with floor cushions. The office was a bonus to the project as it provided privacy to a room that otherwise had none before.
