Designed for a Cliff May "Rancho" home, this project resulted comfortable outdoor spaces for relaxation and entertaining. New walls and fencing, softened with lush planting, create a private atmosphere. And a casual, meadow-style garden filled with California native plants echoes the home's open, airy feeling. Inspiration for a transitional home design remodel in Austin

This project was quite involved (and lots of fun). We poured an 8" thick concrete wall; filled in the patio area with 50 tons of gravel; poured a cap in a dark gray integral color, and stamped it with seashell impressions. Then we filled in the patio and step areas with Clay Red integral colored concrete stamped in the Roman Slate pattern, and cut it decoratively into 5' squares. We finished things off by overlaying the wall with a stamped modified mortar to replicate stacked stone.

Inspiration for a traditional front yard landscaping in San Francisco.

This is take two on ‘The Bent House’, which was canceled after a design board did not approve the modern style in a conservative neighbrohood. So we decided to take it one step further and now it is the ‘bent and sliced house’. The bend is from the original design (a.k.a.The Bent House), and is a gesture to the curved slope of the site. This curve, coincidentally, is almost the same of the previous design’s site, and thus could be re-utilized. Similiar to Japanese Oragami, this house unfolds like a piece of slice paper from the sloped site. The negative space between the slices creates wonderful clerestories for natural light and ventilation. Photo Credit: Mike Sinclair
