CHATHAM MARSHVIEW HOUSE This Cape Cod green home provides a destination for visiting family, support of a snowbird lifestyle, and an expression of the homeowner’s energy conscious values. Looking over the salt marsh with Nantucket Sound in the distance, this new home offers single level living to accommodate aging in place, and a strong connection to the outdoors. The homeowners can easily enjoy the deck, walk to the nearby beach, or spend time with family, while the house works to produce nearly all the energy it consumes. The exterior, clad in the Cape’s iconic Eastern white cedar shingles, is modern in detailing, yet recognizable and familiar in form. Eco Friendly Project: All the fixtures and fittings were sourced locally and sustainably, the paint and all the finishes were eco friendly. The floors were all bamboo (they held up well by the way) and wool carpets. Crisp and white, clean and modern, flush with velvet sofas and cushions and other added textures.

This 1889 Victorian underwent a gut rehabilitation in 2010-2012 to transform it from a dilapidated 2BR/1BA to a 5BR/4BA contemporary family home. The rear of the home opens completely to the patio with an embedded Olive tree via a 9' bi-fold French door system. The patio features large concrete pads separated by 1/2" gravel. Board formed concrete retaining walls retain the impression of the wood forms. An herb planter to the right of the stair serves for kitchen cuttings. The original aggregate patio was broken up and dry stacked for the rear terrace wall. This house achieved a LEED Platinum green certification from the US Green Building Council in 2012. This Seattle remodel of a Greenlake house involved lifting the original Sears Roebuck home 12 feet in the air and building a new basement and 1st floor, remodeling much of the original third floor. The kitchen features an eat-in nook and cabinetry that makes the most of a small space. This home was featured in the Eco Guild's Green Building Slam, Eco Guild's sponsored remodel tour, and has received tremendous attention for its conservative, sustainable approach. Horwitz Residence designed by Minarc *The house is oriented so that all of the rooms can enjoy the outdoor living area which includes Pool, outdoor dinning / bbq and play court. • The flooring used in this residence is by DuChateau Floors - Terra Collection in Zimbabwe. The modern dark colors of the collection match both contemporary & traditional interior design • It’s orientation is thought out to maximize passive solar design and natural ventilations, with solar chimney escaping hot air during summer and heating cold air during winter eliminated the need for mechanical air handling. • Simple Eco-conscious design that is focused on functionality and creating a healthy breathing family environment. • The design elements are oriented to take optimum advantage of natural light and cross ventilation. • Maximum use of natural light to cut down electrical cost. • Interior/exterior courtyards allows for natural ventilation as do the master sliding window and living room sliders. • Conscious effort in using only materials in their most organic form. • Solar thermal radiant floor heating through-out the house • Heated patio and fireplace for outdoor dining maximizes indoor/outdoor living. The entry living room has glass to both sides to further connect the indoors and outdoors. • Floor and ceiling materials connected in an unobtrusive and whimsical manner to increase floor plan flow and space. • Magnetic chalkboard sliders in the play area and paperboard sliders in the kids' rooms transform the house itself into a medium for children's artistic expression. • Material contrasts (stone, steal, wood etc.) makes this modern home warm and family

Saving invaluable existing trees, the backyard was transformed into a collection of easily accessed living areas held together with collections of exotic and butterfly attracting gardens.

The goal of the project was to create a more functional kitchen, but to remodel with an eco-friendly approach. To minimize the waste going into the landfill, all the old cabinetry and appliances were donated, and the kitchen floor was kept intact because it was in great condition. The challenge was to design the kitchen around the existing floor and the natural soapstone the client fell in love with. The clients continued with the sustainable theme throughout the room with the new materials chosen: The back splash tiles are eco-friendly and hand-made in the USA.. The custom range hood was a beautiful addition to the kitchen. We maximized the counter space around the custom sink by extending the integral drain board above the dishwasher to create more prep space. In the adjacent laundry room, we continued the same color scheme to create a custom wall of cabinets to incorporate a hidden laundry shoot, and dog area. We also added storage around the washer and dryer including two different types of hanging for drying purposes.

Dining room - transitional dining room idea in San Francisco

A 1980's townhouse located in the Fitler Square neighborhood of Philadelphia was in need of an upgrade. The project that resulted included substantial interior renovation to the four-story townhome overlooking the Schuylkill River. The Owners desired a fresh interpretation of their existing space, more suited for entertaining and uncluttered modern living. This led to a reinvention of the modern master suite and a refocusing of architectural elements and materials throughout the home. Originally comprised of a divided master bedroom, bathroom and office, the fourth floor was entirely redesigned to create a contemporary, open-plan master suite. The bedroom, now located in the center of the floor plan, is composed with custom built-in furniture and includes a glass terrarium and a wet bar. It is flanked by a dressing room on one side and a luxurious bathroom on the other, all open to one another both visually and by circulation. The bathroom includes a free-standing tub, glass shower, custom wood vanity, eco-conscious fireplace, and an outdoor terrace. The open plan allows for great breadth and a wealth of natural light, atypical of townhouse living. The main entertaining floor houses the kitchen, dining area and living room. A sculptural ceiling defines the open dining area, while a long, low concrete hearth connects the new modern fireplace with the concrete stair treads leading up. The bright, neutral color palette of the walls and finishes contrasts against the blackened wood floors. This vacation residence located in a beautiful ocean community on the New England coast features high performance and creative use of space in a small package. ZED designed the simple, gable-roofed structure and proposed the Passive House standard. The resulting home consumes only one-tenth of the energy for heating compared to a similar new home built only to code requirements. A luxurious alternative to custom wood garage doors are our ECO-Alternative composite designer garage doors. Architectural designs are unlimited and just like these customized garage doors, decorative iron hardware was added to give these garage doors a unique design to suit this home's style. This particular model replicates the tongue and groove vertical slats with perimeter trim typical of custom wood garage doors. Painted in a rich sage green these custom composite garage doors are a true architectural element.

The media room features a wool sectional and a pair of vintage Milo Baughman armchairs reupholstered in a snappy green velvet. All upholstered items were made with natural latex cushions wrapped in organic wool in order to eliminate harmful chemicals for our eco and health conscious clients (who were passionate about green interior design).
