Here is a newly completed project I've been working on. My charge was to make functional spaces in a basement that included a bar, TV space, game space, office space and music room. The client was sharing some photos he'd taken in subways in NYC, Chicago and London, among others. These exciting images of his stimulated an idea: What if we used the subway as a motif for the entire basement project? This concept was enthusiastically endorsed. Months later, here are the results of this creative challenge.

The kitchen window was oriented with full view of the backyard so they could watch their kids play. The island was designed for big potluck dinners the owners like to have with their friends and relatives. Two kinds of wood, a dark walnut and lighter ash break up the mass of cabinets. A marble pattern Pental quartz countertop and Blanco sinks make for easy clean-up. The overhead light is by Stickbulb.

Black and white cement floor tile paired with navy cabinets and white countertops keeps this mudroom and laundry room interesting. The low maintenance materials keep this hard working space clean.

Inspired by the majesty of the Northern Lights and this family's everlasting love for Disney, this home plays host to enlighteningly open vistas and playful activity. Like its namesake, the beloved Sleeping Beauty, this home embodies family, fantasy and adventure in their truest form. Visions are seldom what they seem, but this home did begin 'Once Upon a Dream'. Welcome, to The Aurora.

This black, gray and gold urban farmhouse kitchen is the hub of the home for this busy family. Our team changed out the existing plain kitchen hood for this showstopper custom stainless hood with gold strapping and rivets. This provided a much needed focal point for this lovely kitchen. In addition, we changed out the 36" refrigerator to a roomier 42" refrigerator and built-in a matching paneled refrigerator cabinet. We also added the antique gold linear hardware and black and gold lighting to give it a streamlined look. Touches of black tie the kitchen design into the rest of the home's mostly black and white color scheme. The woven counter stools give the space a touch of casual elegance. A new champagne gold kitchen faucet and potfiller add additional style, while greenery and wood accessories add a touch of warmth.

This homage to prairie style architecture located at The Rim Golf Club in Payson, Arizona was designed for owner/builder/landscaper Tom Beck.
This home appears literally fastened to the site by way of both careful design as well as a lichen-loving organic material palatte. Forged from a weathering steel roof (aka Cor-Ten), hand-formed cedar beams, laser cut steel fasteners, and a rugged stacked stone veneer base, this home is the ideal northern Arizona getaway.
Expansive covered terraces offer views of the Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish designed golf course, the largest stand of Ponderosa Pines in the US, as well as the majestic Mogollon Rim and Stewart Mountains, making this an ideal place to beat the heat of the Valley of the Sun.
Designing a personal dwelling for a builder is always an honor for us. Thanks, Tom, for the opportunity to share your vision.

While the in-ground swimming pool takes up much of the backyard, areas are established with specific activities in mind. Wood decking was placed over the concrete to make an outdoor living room and a location where son Marco and his friends can be safely watched while in the pool.
Other "rooms" and outdoor spaces in back include a raised vegetable garden, a koi pond, a dining room, barbecue, and Wirsching's prized tea house / retreat.

The oval freestanding tub paired combined with the curves of the plumbing fixtures contrasts with the rectangular floor tile, vanities and sinks creating a transitional aesthetic. The marble-look porcelain floor tile and wainscot are set in a soldier stack to lend a more contemporary look. © Lassiter Photography **Any product tags listed as “related,” “similar,” or “sponsored” are done so by Houzz and are not the actual products specified.
