Often, less is more. Take this landscape design composed of climbing roses, hydrangeas, and lilies surrounding a bluestone terrace. This small, suburban garden feels both expansive and intimate. Japanese forest grass softens the edge of the terrace and adds just enough of a modern look to make the garden’s owners, urban transplants, happy. “My husband and I were looking for an outdoor space that had a secret-garden feeling,” says homeowner Anne Lillis-Ruth. “We’ve had fun adding furniture, antique planters, and a stone fountain to [landscape designer] Robert Welsch’s beautiful landscape. The white and green plantings provide the perfect backdrop to my collection of colorful table linens, glassware, and china. We love our garden!”
Dean Fisher loved it, too. “The setting is so lovely and relaxed. It evokes the south of France, with its intimate scale and the integration of house and patio through the use of the vines and other plantings.”

Tree care is not something that should be left up to chance. In fact, it is important to hire the right professional to care for your trees. An arborist is a certified tree care specialist that has the training and the skills to ensure your trees are healthy and well-nourished. Five Star Tree Services discusses the importance of working with an arborist below.
What is a Certified Arborist?
An arborist is a professional tree caretaker that has been formally trained. They are highly knowledgeable in the science of maintaining trees, tree planting, and caring for trees and all other plant life. Only those who are seasoned in the field can become certified by the International Society of Arboriculture. Each arborist is given rigorous exams that test their skill and knowledge base in arboriculture. If you don’t pass, you can’t get certified, pretty simple!
How an Arborist Can Help With Your Trees
There are several ways that a professional, certified arborist can help with your regular tree care needs.
Pruning – Keeping your trees pruned helps their health, encourages growth, and helps to give them an attractive natural form. Dead branches or poor performing branches much be removed with care and in a specific manner.
Healthcare – A qualified arborist will be able to diagnose tree diseases and spot pest infestations. Once diagnosed, they are also able to suggest and perform the proper treatments to bring your tree back to optimal health. They are also able to offer emergency care following a storm.
Planting – Planting a tree is a great way to improve the look of your yard and add to the local environment. Working with a specialist will ensure that you not only choose the right kind of tree for your climate, but they will also help you choose where to plant that tree so that it thrives.
Removal- Sometimes trees do fail and when they do, they need to be removed. A tree care specialist will be able to preform a tree removal or a stump removal safely.
Skills and Expectations of a Certified Arborist
Certified arborists have a minimum of three years of practical experience. In addition to that, they are expected to stay up to date on changes in the arboriculture field. There is more to tree care than simply planting and watering. Regular maintenance such as pruning, trimming, and soil feeding is also required.
Maintaining healthy trees can boost the curb appeal and the value of your property in addition to enriching your local eco-system. Choosing a qualified certified arborist will ensure that your trees will be well maintained and that aesthetics of your landscape will remain intact.
