JMMDS created a woodland garden for a contemporary house on a pond in a Boston suburb that blurs the line between traditional and modern, natural and built spaces. At the front of the house, three evenly spaced fastigiate ginkgo trees (Ginkgo biloba Fastigiata) act as an openwork aerial hedge that mediates between the tall façade of the house, the front terraces and gardens, and the parking area. New ledge-like stones are placed to bring the feel of the existing ledges into a new front garden bed. Photo: Bill Sumner.

This master bedroom seating area is so peaceful and beautiful I didn't want to leave. The floor lamp was sourced along with the round wood end table at local antique shops. The homeowners did not want drapery on the windows. They wanted the custom wood window trim molding to speak for itself. We added Hunter Douglas inset window shades along with a textured drapery on the sliding door only. Cream colored arm chairs with ginkgo biloba patterned pillows bring in the green color of the walls. These antique wall sconces are absolutely gorgeous at night. This is a very warm, cozy and elegant space.

A circular garden and walking path surrounds a large decorative container and provides access to the utility door of the garage. As a property with no turf, the irrigation system is designed specifically for perennial and shrub beds.
