An extensive Remodel of of an existing 1,500 square foot Flat, resulting in an open expansive Kitchen, Dining and Entry. Three large skylights and expansive windows were introduced into the main open space, creating a significantly brightened interior. Clean, Modern Design is emphasized. The main space now spans the length of the building, over 60 feet. The New Open Kitchen, Dining and Entry was created from an existing dark and underutilized Hallway. The new space includes a reconfigured Living Room, Bedroom, Master Bedroom and Bath, 2 Bedrooms, and the open main Kitchen, Dining and Entry. The Bright, Clean, Modern Design also creates a galleried space for Modern Art and Furnishings.

Inspiration for a timeless bathroom remodel in San Francisco

London designer Charles Mellersh was a member of the original editorial team at Wallpaper (along with Tyler Brule, now of Monocle, Alasdhair Willis, who until recently headed up Established & Sons, and Paul de Zwart of Another Country furniture). "In a past life, my role as an interiors editor at Wallpaper was to instill each story with a distinct narrative and to translate this onto the page," Mellersh says. "I used to pull inspiration and items from a global list of suppliers, often with a nod to a specific time or place in mind, and this is very much how I approach each project as a designer. It's not just design for design's sake. It's about telling a story and trying to create an atmosphere that provokes an emotional response." For this Notting Hill house, Mellersh worked with the owners to create a modern space with "warmth and soul. We looked to the historic references in the building and the location for initial inspiration, and then interpreted these references in a modern way without being slavish to the past or losing sight of it altogether." These homeowners like to entertain and wanted their kitchen and dining room to become one larger open space. To achieve that feel, an 8-foot-high wall that closed off the dining room from the kitchen was removed. By designing the layout in a large “L” shape and adding an island, the room now functions quite well for informal entertaining. There are two focal points of this new space – the kitchen island and the contemporary style fireplace. Granite, wood, stainless steel and glass are combined to make the two-tiered island into a piece of art and the dimensional fireplace façade adds interest to the soft seating area. A unique wine cabinet was designed to show off their large wine collection. Stainless steel tip-up doors in the wall cabinets tie into the finish of the new appliances and asymmetrical legs on the island. A large screen TV that can be viewed from both the soft seating area, as well as the kitchen island was a must for these sports fans.
