Ornamental koi can be a peaceful addition to water gardens, but rarely are they seen cascading down a wall inside the home. In the sunroom of the Adamsleigh Estate in Greensboro, N.C., the koi water feature inspired the colors and mood of the spa-like design and serves as the focal point of the room.
The designer, Bradshaw Orrell, created a calm ambiance through the use of a symmetrical layout and a custom designed Sunbrella rug from Colonial Mills which adds a layer of softness to the terracotta floor. Two directional chaises with upholstered cushions in Meridian Frost sit on either side of an upholstered ottoman in Savvy Sunset by Joe Ruggiero. Throw pillows in Spectrum Peacock, Canvas Birdseye and Savvy Sunset reflect the colors of a koi pond and add depth and comfort for lounging.
The abundant sunshine reveals the subtle asymmetry of the framed prints flanking the koi while a Sunbrella throw by Textillery Weavers adds a soft touch to this relaxing oasis.

Philadelphia Row Home Renovation focusing on maximizing storage for a young family of 5. We created a "mudroom" in the front of the row home with a large living room space for family time + hosting. We used kid-friendly furnishings with performance fabrics that are durable and easy to clean. Prioritized eco-friendly selections, utilizing locally sourced + American made pieces.

This is the first room people see when they come into her home and she wanted it to make a statement but also be warm and inviting. Just before entering the living room was an entry rotunda. We added a round entry table with scrolled iron accents to introduce the Tuscan feel with an elegant light fixture above. Going into the living room, we warmed up the color scheme and added pops of color with a rich purple. Next we brought in some new furniture pieces and even added more chairs for seating. Adding a new custom fireplace mantel to carry in the woodwork from other areas in the house made the fireplace more of a statement piece in the room, and keeping with the style she loved we made some slight changes on the draperies and brought them up to open the windows and give the room more height. Accessories and wall décor helped to polish off the look and our client was so happy with the end result.

The clients for this small bathroom project are passionate art enthusiasts and asked the architects to create a space based on the work of one of their favorite abstract painters, Piet Mondrian. Mondrian was a Dutch artist associated with the De Stijl movement which reduced designs down to basic rectilinear forms and primary colors within a grid. Alloy used floor to ceiling recycled glass tiles to re-interpret Mondrian's compositions, using blocks of color in a white grid of tile to delineate space and the functions within the small room. A red block of color is recessed and becomes a niche, a blue block is a shower seat, a yellow rectangle connects shower fixtures with the drain.
The bathroom also has many aging-in-place design components which were a priority for the clients. There is a zero clearance entrance to the shower. We widened the doorway for greater accessibility and installed a pocket door to save space. ADA compliant grab bars were located to compliment the tile composition.

Modern renovation by J Design Group is stunning
J Design Group, an expert in luxury design, completed a new project in Tamarac, Florida, which involved the total interior remodeling of this home. We were so intrigued by the photos and design ideas, we decided to talk to J Design Group CEO, Jennifer Corredor. The concept behind the redesign was inspired by the client’s relocation.
Andrea Campbell: How did you get a feel for the client's aesthetic?
Jennifer Corredor: After a one-on-one with the Client, I could get a real sense of her aesthetics for this home and the type of furnishings she gravitated towards.
The redesign included a total interior remodeling of the client's home. All of this was done with the client's personal style in mind. Certain walls were removed to maximize the openness of the area and bathrooms were also demolished and reconstructed for a new layout. This included removing the old tiles and replacing with white 40” x 40” glass tiles for the main open living area which optimized the space immediately. Bedroom floors were dressed with exotic African Teak to introduce warmth to the space.
We also removed and replaced the outdated kitchen with a modern look and streamlined, state-of-the-art kitchen appliances. To introduce some color for the backsplash and match the client's taste, we introduced a splash of plum-colored glass behind the stove and kept the remaining backsplash with frosted glass. We then removed all the doors throughout the home and replaced with custom-made doors which were a combination of cherry with insert of frosted glass and stainless steel handles.
All interior lights were replaced with LED bulbs and stainless steel trims, including unique pendant and wall sconces that were also added. All bathrooms were totally gutted and remodeled with unique wall finishes, including an entire marble slab utilized in the master bath shower stall.
Once renovation of the home was completed, we proceeded to install beautiful high-end modern furniture for interior and exterior, from lines such as B&B Italia to complete a masterful design. One-of-a-kind and limited edition accessories and vases complimented the look with original art, most of which was custom-made for the home.
To complete the home, state of the art A/V system was introduced. The idea is always to enhance and amplify spaces in a way that is unique to the client and exceeds his/her expectations.

Smokey Blue Kitchen: A Blend of Classic Elegance and Modern Flair
This kitchen design showcases a harmonious balance of sophistication and warmth, where smokey blue cabinetry sets the tone for an inviting yet stylish space. Thoughtful details such as brass hardware and a striking black island create depth and visual interest, while natural stone countertops bring a touch of organic beauty.
Key Features of This Kitchen Design:
Smokey Blue Cabinets: The cabinetry’s soft, smoky blue color adds a layer of elegance and tranquility, making the kitchen feel welcoming and refined. This hue serves as the perfect backdrop for other design elements, exuding both charm and contemporary appeal.
Natural Stone Countertops: Luxurious, natural stone countertops with subtle veining offer durability and timeless beauty. Their organic patterns pair perfectly with the blue cabinets, adding texture and a natural touch that grounds the space.
Brass Hardware: Polished brass handles and knobs introduce warmth and a hint of luxury, standing out against the smokey blue and complementing the black island. The brass accents elevate the overall design and tie in seamlessly with transitional or traditional styles.
Black Island: The bold, black island serves as a dramatic centerpiece, providing a striking contrast to the softer tones of the surrounding cabinets. This focal point not only enhances the color palette but also adds a touch of modernity.
Pops of Color: Thoughtfully chosen decorative elements, patterned textiles, add personality and liveliness without overpowering the sophisticated color scheme.
Glass Elegance: Glass-front cabinets or pendant lights with glass detailing contribute to an airy, open feel while adding a touch of refinement. These elements subtly reflect light and elevate the kitchen’s ambiance.
This smokey blue kitchen is a masterful blend of classic and contemporary design. The use of brass hardware, natural stone, and a bold black island alongside glass details creates a space that is not only elegant but also rich with character and warmth.
