The 7th Avenue project is a contemporary twist on a mid century modern design. The home is designed for a professional couple that are well traveled and love the Taliesen west style of architecture. Design oriented individuals, the clients had always wanted to design their own home and they took full advantage of that opportunity. A jewel box design, the solution is engineered entirely to fit their aesthetic for living. Worked tightly to budget, the client was closely involved in every step of the process ensuring that the value was delivered where they wanted it.

Dining room - modern dining room idea in Phoenix

Our clients on this project were inspired by their travels to Asia and wanted to mimic this aesthetic at their DC property. We designed a water feature that effectively masks adjacent traffic noise and maintains a small footprint.

This ensuite bathroom for one of the bedrooms has copper ceramic tiles and complementary ceramic tiles on the floor and wall. All the bathrooms have skylights and windows which help to bring in light and natural ventilation. The vanity is clad in a natural black walnut veneer

During the design process it grew to having a living space above the studio, which grew to having a small house attached to the studio forming a compound. At this point it became clear to the client; the project was outgrowing the neighborhood. After re-evaluating the project, the live / work compound is currently sited in a natural protected nest with post card views of Mount Sopris & the Roaring Fork Valley. The courtyard compound consist of the central south facing piece being the studio flanked by a simple 2500 sq ft 2 bedroom, 2 story house one the west side, and a multi purpose guest wing /studio on the east side. The evolution of this compound came to include the desire to have the building blend into the surrounding landscape, and at the same time become the backdrop to create and display his sculpture. “Jess has been our architect on several projects over the past ten years. Corten® steel siding was chosen to minimize the building facades’ impact on the visual environment, its minimal maintenance requirements and elimination of long-term environmental impacts typical of other siding choices (paints, VOC emissions, cleaning functions). Corten® provides a range of LEED certifications for MR 4.1/4.2, MR 2.1/2.2, MR 5.2/5.2 credits, is 100% recyclable, is made from recycled content and considerably curtails the life-cycle enthalpy of the project’s exterior materials.
