A cookie cutter developer three bedroom duplex was transformed into a four bedroom family friendly home complete with fine details and custom millwork. A home office, artist studio and even a full laundry room were added through a better use of space. Additionally, transoms were added to improve light and air circulation.

The owner's buoyant personality, own design work, and extensive art collection inspire the renovation and addition to this Potrero Hill home. Of course, the dramatic views of the city from the site, which is open on three sides, contribute their fare share to the project's success as well. Here, we worked specifically to "curate" the natural light — using it to draw people up and through the space, to focus attention on the collection of art objects, and to propel them back out to panoramic views of the city beyond. As in all of our work, we were strategic in the use of resources, maintaining the original character of the front of the home, while subtly coaxing more character out of materials, such as simple exterior siding, at the rear

Design Solutions
Technology and Aesthetics. There was a time when these two topics were mutually exclusive, but no longer. We work with some of the best designers, architects and builders in the business to create visually stunning spaces. Creating the proper aesthetic starts early in the process. Our detailed CAD drawings help visualize the desired end result to help avoid surprises during the construction or retrofit phase of the project. This allows all partners to review and approve locations and make the necessary recommendations or changes that are approved by the homeowner.
Design Selections
Individual and Custom
When the time comes to actually choose products that will blend within a home’s environment, the decisions go far beyond picking the right size flat-panel display. Fabric samples for shades, trim plate colors for outlets and lighting keypads, hidden speakers, TV’s hidden within mirrors, invisible speakers, and a myriad of other options are available. We provide the resources to design your environment with your own individual style.

The entire wall surrounding the fireplace is a 3' thick brick wall with the chimney in the middle and 3' deep closets on either end. In order to put up wallboard, a steel frame was built over the entire face. In order to support the 16' mantle, made of a single length of exotic wood, steel bolts needed to be attached to the steel frame. The original firebox was a wood burning fireplace. It was converted to a gas insert. The closets on either end were converted to pantry shelving. The hardwood flooring is Brazilian cherry, a renewable resource.
Can you see the surround sound speakers in the wall on each side of the television? These invisible speakers required a very thin application of spackle around the edges and a thin coat of paint over the top.
