Breakfast Room designed kid friendly with a distressed table from Hooker Furniture, vinyl covered bench Kravet and chairs from Hooker Furniture recovered in a indoor/outdoor fabric from Kravet. Beaded Chandelier is a fun touch and is from Savoy House. A curved cornice custom made gives the space in a soft touch in Duralee fabric. Wall Color is Benjamin Moore OC - 23 Classic Gray.

Snakeskin-inspired kid-friendly upholstered chairs mix with rattan captain's chairs to set the tone for this funky et sophisticated dining area. A busy family moves to a new home stuck in the 90's in metro Boston and requests a full refresh and renovation. Lots of family friendly materials and finishes are used. Some areas feel more modern, others have more of a transitional flair. Elegance is not impossible in a family home, as this project illustrates. Spaces are designed and used for adults and kids. For example the family room doubles as a kids craft room, but also houses a piano and guitars, a library and a sitting area for parents to hang out with their children. The living room is family friendly with a stain resistant sectional sofa, large TV screen but also houses refined decor, a wet bar, and sophisticated seating. The entry foyer offers bins to throw shoes in, and the dining room has an indoor outdoor rug that can be hosed down as needed! The master bedroom is a romantic, transitional space. Project Feature in: Luxe Magazine & Luxury Living Brickell From skiing in the Swiss Alps to water sports in Key Biscayne, a relocation for a Chilean couple with three small children was a sea change. “They’re probably the most opposite places in the world,” says the husband about moving from Switzerland to Miami. The couple fell in love with a tropical modern house in Key Biscayne with architecture by Marta Zubillaga and Juan Jose Zubillaga of Zubillaga Design. The white-stucco home with horizontal planks of red cedar had them at hello due to the open interiors kept bright and airy with limestone and marble plus an abundance of windows. “The light,” the husband says, “is something we loved.” While in Miami on an overseas trip, the wife met with designer Maite Granda, whose style she had seen and liked online. For their interview, the homeowner brought along a photo book she created that essentially offered a roadmap to their family with profiles, likes, sports, and hobbies to navigate through the design. They immediately clicked, and Granda’s passion for designing children’s rooms was a value-added perk that the mother of three appreciated. “She painted a picture for me of each of the kids,” recalls Granda. “She said, ‘My boy is very creative—always building; he loves Legos. My oldest girl is very artistic— always dressing up in costumes, and she likes to sing. This kid friendly breakfast nook. Done in Navy and Grey. Navy vinyl cushion with throw pillows in outdoor fabrics to coordinate. The chandelier was repainted in white to give her new home a fresher look. Roman shade create a fun pattern to pull it all together. Artwork was purchased from Etsy a personalized chalkboard calendar to help keep this busy Mom organized

For this family with young children, Barbara created a fun-colored, kid-friendly, design that melded the owner's modern and eclectic tastes with the Victorian architecture of the home.
