Bedroom - mid-sized cottage master carpeted bedroom idea in San Francisco with white walls

The master bedroom of this home is full of exciting colors and textures. The dark walls allow the bed to stand out while the rug and pillows add pops of color and texture. Brad Knipstein was the photographer.

The King Isosceles firebowl embodies an intriguing geometric aesthetic within the deep curves cut into its profile. The lines of the King Isosceles speak of a pleasing simplicity, a clean and subtle elegance. These lines are a symbol of reason and rigor, of comfort and symmetry, of civilization built on classical forms and knowledge.
Western culture has long held the austere beauty of Euclidean geometry to be a glimpse into an otherworldly system of perfection and certainty, even as its proofs are grounded solidly in the natural laws of the material world.
As a sculptor, I'm fascinated by form, volume and geometry. The simplest designs are often the most difficult to get right— they must meet a higher standard of perfection than organic forms, as any error immediately draws the eye. For me, art is best when it overlaps myth and math, symbol and science, form and function.
Abraham Lincoln was known to read Euclid's Geometry by candlelight, convinced its mathematical proofs would quicken his logic and oratory in the courtroom. The King Isosceles firebowl is a modernist homage to this classical approach to eloquence, and my hope is that it will inspire your stories told round the blaz

Family room - contemporary family room idea in Detroit with beige walls and a wall-mounted tv

This room was designed for flexibility; it is a perfect example of form follows function! The clients needed a guest room that could provided twin beds or a king bed depending on the guests. We designed an upholstered headboard that was attached to the wall; it is wider than a king size mattress in order to place a table in between the twin beds. When a king bed is needed the table is repositioned to the side and the twin beds are pushed together. A foam strip designed to fill in the space between the twins is used for the king size set-up and a king size coverlet is used to make the bed.

Who says green and sustainable design has to look like it? Designed to emulate the owner’s favorite country club, this fine estate home blends in with the natural surroundings of it’s hillside perch, and is so intoxicatingly beautiful, one hardly notices its numerous energy saving and green features.
Durable, natural and handsome materials such as stained cedar trim, natural stone veneer, and integral color plaster are combined with strong horizontal roof lines that emphasize the expansive nature of the site and capture the “bigness” of the view. Large expanses of glass punctuated with a natural rhythm of exposed beams and stone columns that frame the spectacular views of the Santa Clara Valley and the Los Gatos Hills.
A shady outdoor loggia and cozy outdoor fire pit create the perfect environment for relaxed Saturday afternoon barbecues and glitzy evening dinner parties alike. A glass “wall of wine” creates an elegant backdrop for the dining room table, the warm stained wood interior details make the home both comfortable and dramatic.
The project’s energy saving features include:
- a 5 kW roof mounted grid-tied PV solar array pays for most of the electrical needs, and sends power to the grid in summer 6 year payback!
- all native and drought-tolerant landscaping reduce irrigation needs
- passive solar design that reduces heat gain in summer and allows for passive heating in winter
- passive flow through ventilation provides natural night cooling, taking advantage of cooling summer breezes
- natural day-lighting decreases need for interior lighting
- fly ash concrete for all foundations
- dual glazed low e high performance windows and doors

The king size bed was a tight fit between two doors in this master bedroom. As a space saving tactic, two crystal pendants were hung on either side to free up space on the small bedside tables. A small bench at the end of the bed provides a place to store a throw blanket or toss a sweater at the end of a long day.

BANKS BED, shown here in King size. Also available in Queen and Cal King. The piece de resistance of any sensual sleep chamber. Our fabulous four-poster with a sleek modern metal frame in rich satin-brass finish. We love the way this bed creates an intimate “room within a room” feeling, while also providing all the comfort of an upholstered bed. The three-panel fabric headboard lets you lean back to read and relax. It works with both our Luxe and Super Luxe mattresses. And it includes a matching fabric box-spring cover. Also shown: our Banks side tables, with elongated drawer pulls in the same satin-brass finish as the bed. The Banks collection includes trembisi-wood tables and chests that are also well suited to pairing with many other pieces in our collection. MILLER BENCH: Tufting and pleating abound... making both Miller Rectangular Bench and Square styles elegant, eye catching additions to a living space and well suited to centering a conversation area. They rest on wood plinth bases, making them look like they’re floating just above the floor. Truly sophisticated “comfortable cocktail tables”-- softer for putting your feet up on and also useful for serving when you put a tray down.
