Entryway - modern entryway idea in Salt Lake City
Laughing Waters, Inc
The customers desired a secluded environment for retreat at the end of a long workday. The project began with stone selection. We desired an organic stone that would age beautifully over time, and shape the walls and features of the space.
Our team faced major logistics challenges throughout the project. The wooded property sloped away from the house dramatically making difficulty bringing in large materials and machinery needed to complete the job. Tree protection and a temporary road were constructed for the duration of the project.
Stone placement was key to success for this project. We hand-selected each boulder for the project and assembled the stones by similar grain patterns and colors to create authenticity. The idea was to give the illusion that these natural limestone formations existed on the property before the home and landscaping was created adding a great mystery to the overall feature.
The viewer is surrounded by large stone walls with cascades of water that have shaped the stone over time. The viewer is given the illusion that the source of water comes from the distance of the property and cascades into a secluded area. We designed an underground cistern to hold rain water run-off allowing the water feature to naturally filter the water for re-use.
The pump system is run on a Variable Frequency Drive for programmable automation, allowing the customer to run the waterfall at different flow rates at different times of day allowing for operation cost savings, and low energy consumption.

Curated Nest
Eclectic / modern style room for a dinosaur-obsessed 5 year old Brooklyn boy. Maximized the compact space by using built-in storage as a multifunctional, cozy reading nook with custom high-performance upholstery (i.e., kid-friendly). Used tones of blue in wallpaper, walls, and furniture to ground the space and keep it mature as he grows up - but with vibrant, fun pops of red for now.

My son's nursery, taken several years ago! Nurseries are so fun to design. I didn't want a theme (jungle, ocean, etc) - just something happy but simple with a hint of mod, and this fit the bill!
Materials used: Skip Hop "Mod Dot" bedding, purchased online (now available for under $100 sans bumpers); Crib is Carter's "Sleep Haven" crib, purchased at Babies R Us. Artwork is Inhabit stretched wall art, "Giggle" in cornflower (middle), and "Laugh," also in cornflower, but can be purchased in other colors. Paint is Behr, "Harmonious," sold at The Home Depot. "Expedit" bookcases from IKEA (2) turned on their sides. Rug also from IKEA. Rocking chair purchased on Amazon. Changing table came with crib, free of charge (deal at time of crib purchase).

The idea of this project was to create a special environment that stimulates all senses in the human body, an environment that is vibrant and most importantly interactive for all ages. We began by searching for the right materials to create a specific feeling of time and space.
Placement of the water feature was designed by studying how the customer used their home. The waterfalls and streams connect separate outdoor spaces and accommodate for all views outdoors and indoors. A sense of mystery is designed into every detail in this water feature. The layout of the ponds play accordingly with the sun for excellent reflections, and each rock formation has time designed into it.
The environment is inviting, and interactive. Each person that walks out to explore the environment has his or her curiosity rewarded by discovering plant life, trickling streams, and several waterfalls only to be discovered by the inquisitive explorer.

Unobstructed panoramic views continue into the bedroom. The Room & Board chest-of-drawers compliments other Mid-Century pieces throughout the home in a fresh, updated way. Although Daniel is always eager to add to his art collection, “I love Gerhard Richter, I would get an Ed Ruscha painting, and maybe even an Edward Hopper”, adding shades to the windows is next on Daniel’s to-do list. “It’s a bit bright in the morning!” he laughs.
