This cozy living room area features a wood-burning stove, as well as a comfortable upholstered lounge chair and an elegant antique writing desk. WKD’s experience in historic preservation and antique curation restored this gentleman’s farm into a casual, comfortable, livable home for the next chapter in this couple’s lives. The project included a new family entrance and mud room, new powder room, and opening up some of the rooms for better circulation. While WKD curated the client’s existing collection of art and antiques, refurbishing where necessary, new furnishings were also added to give the home a new lease on life. Making small spaces count. In this tiny Guest Bathroom, Interior Designer Rebecca Robeson works magic with her selections of fixtures, finishes and hardware to visually enlarge the room. Selecting magnificent white marble pieces, laser cut in an oval shape and placed horizontally, Rebecca chose grey grout to surround each piece, giving it an embedded look. Carrying the feature wall from the toilet on into the back wall of the shower, this once tiny bathroom (painted red) gets a new lease on life! Rebecca’s creative solution to the lack of usable surface space was to design a custom ceiling mounted shelving unit above the toilet. Shown here, it's used for well-appointed accessory pieces but when necessary, can also serve the functional needs of guests for makeup bags, shaving kits, perfume and toiletries. Trying to find a quiet corner in one's house for an office can be tough, but it also can be an adventure! Reworking spaces in our homes so that they work better for our families as they grow and change is something we all need to do from time to time-- and it can give your house a new lease on life. One room that took on a new identity in this old farmhouse was the third floor attic space--a room that is much like a treehouse with its small footprint, high perch, lofty views of the landscape, and sloping ceiling. The space has been many things over the past two decades- a bedroom, a guest room, a hang-out for kids... but NOW it is the 'world headquarters' for my client's business. :) Adding all the funky touches that make it a cozy personal space made all the difference...like lots of live green plants, vintage original artwork, architectural salvage window sashes, a repurposed and repainted dresser from the 1940's, and, of course, my client's favorite photos.

This humble but plucky bungalow has stood guard over its own stretch of sandy beach in Napeague Harbor on Long Island, NY, just east of Amagansett, since 1948. Its new lease on life began in early 2010 when new owners took possession and embarked on a first round of urgent renovations in hopes it would be ready for the summer that was around the corner. That meant a complete gut, replacing the substructure, the plumbing and electrical services as well as giving the house new cedar roof trusses, which are exposed by raised ceilings, and new floors of maple. At just 800 square feet, it was a pint-sized home waiting for a gallon-sized family. That meant maximizing everything. A long open-plan space filled with sunlight comprises the kitchen, dining, bathroom and living area while to the side are two bedrooms each with loft spaces. Phase II of the renovation project, that may include expanding the footprint of the home, will be completed before summer 2011 when the family will return to its cozy welcome and to the allure of the beach, widely regarded as a kite-surfer’s paradise.

I wanted my very own nice bed sidetable. I took an old, sad looking (water damaged + brown) Swedish antique (no good quality), gave it new beautiful hardware and gave it a professional paint job. I love how it turned out!
