The homeowners had a very specific vision for their large daylight basement. To begin, Neil Kelly's team, led by Portland Design Consultant Fabian Genovesi, took down numerous walls to completely open up the space, including the ceilings, and removed carpet to expose the concrete flooring. The concrete flooring was repaired, resurfaced and sealed with cracks in tact for authenticity. Beams and ductwork were left exposed, yet refined, with additional piping to conceal electrical and gas lines. Century-old reclaimed brick was hand-picked by the homeowner for the east interior wall, encasing stained glass windows which were are also reclaimed and more than 100 years old. Aluminum bar-top seating areas in two spaces. A media center with custom cabinetry and pistons repurposed as cabinet pulls. And the star of the show, a full 4-seat wet bar with custom glass shelving, more custom cabinetry, and an integrated television-- one of 3 TVs in the space. The new one-of-a-kind basement has room for a professional 10-person poker table, pool table, 14' shuffleboard table, and plush seating.

Working with this chef on a kitchen redesign proved to be a study in detail, said Janice. “She was very specific on what she needed and we had to make some significant adjustments in wall structures, among other things, to provide what she was looking for.” “However, she was very enjoyable to work with because, while there were a lot of requirements about what she had to have, she was also open to ideas and to blending her needs with different ways to do things.” One of the significant changes included: Redoing a wall that separated the kitchen from the living area having only one opening in the middle to a wall with two openings on either side of a new bar area where people can gather and flow more easily into the living area. Evoqua's employee cafeteria was updated with new paint colors to coordinate with existing VCT flooring colors along with new lunch tables finished in Deepstar Flint with a table edge of Tan. Chairs were designed in black.. Artwork was also added to warm up the space. Benjamin Moore's Sweet Rosy Brown was painted on the large picture wall and the counter wall.
