A parent-freindly playroom means that this room can act as a gathering place for the entire family!!! A comfy custom sectional with a custom ottoman to put your feet up on, a large screen TV wall for adults and kids alike! The built-in bookcases have pull out desktops hidden away with patterned ottomans as desk chairs or can double as a footrest while lounging with a good book on the window seat. Two whiteboards and a magnetic board to display the very best art projects, handwriting and math problems. Each lit with the kelly green wall pandants. A multishelf gutter style bookcase wall under the vintage letters that say it all "PLAY!" Kid books on the bottom shelves with mom's parenting magazines on the top shelf. Custom drapes frame in the bay window and help seperate the bold damask wallpaper from the rest of the space. The bay is complete with two art tables, four chairs and a roll of white paper where the creativity can start. Checkerboard ceramic tile floor in 24" x 24" tiles set the tone for the pattern-filled playroom. The custom rug with bold raised polka dots adds comfort for little ones who want to lay on the ground and add a dramatic twist to the entire room. Two wallpapers, 3 paint colors, one unique floor, a custom patterened area rug, and over 12 patterened fabrics used in just this room!
Who says you can't have fun with patterns?

A few simple strokes make the master bedroom a parent’s retreat. The high ceiling (pushed up 15”), and the oak cabinets help bring the eye to the gorgeous city view outside. The original bay window is expanded and deepened to accommodate a generous window seat for two. A custom remote controlled roller shade blocks off light at bed time.

An open floor plan between the Kitchen, Dining, and Living areas is thoughtfully divided by sliding barn doors, providing both visual and acoustic separation. The rear screened porch and grilling area located off the Kitchen become the focal point for outdoor entertaining and relaxing. Custom cabinetry and millwork throughout are a testament to the talents of the builder, with the project proving how design-build relationships between builder and architect can thrive given similar design mindsets and passions for the craft of homebuilding.

Out of seven children, twin daughters Bellamy and Tallulah hold their own as the only girls in the bunch. When recent renovations included installing the elevator, all rooms needed to be slightly reconfigured. "Our girls are getting older so we were happy to bring in something new and redecorate", says Cortney. Now into their teens, the girls have redone their bedroom to reflect their growing sense of style and independence.
Above Tallulah's bed hangs a childhood portrait of her by Linda Mason. The upholstered bed frames are a recent purchase that add a decidedly feminine air to the space, while a brightly painted chair and striped draperies maintain a youthful punch.
Even with two designer parents, the girls are free to weigh in on what goes into their room. "It is definitely a collaboration", Cortney explains. "[Our daughter] Bellamy really enjoys designing and has a natural talent for it. All of our kids bring their own artistic sense into their spaces, after all, we want their spaces to reflect them, too."

Photo by Alexandra DeFurio. Aidan is a 12-year-old girl who lives with her father half of the time. Her parents are divorced and her father wanted his daughter to be at home in his new bachelor house. He wanted her to feel “understood” and validated as a girl entering into her teen years. The room therefore is sophisticated, yet still young and innocent. It may have “grown up” attributes such as chic English paisley wallpaper by Osborne and Little and a sassy “Like Forever” poster, but it is still comfortable enough to hang out on the flokati rug or on the vintage revamped chair.
Aidan was very involved in providing the design inspiration for the room. She had asked for a “beachy” feel and as design professionals know, what takes over in the creative process is the ideas evolve and many either are weeded out or enhanced. It was our job as designers to introduce to Aidan a world beyond Pottery Barn Kids. We incorporated her love of the ocean with a custom, mixed Benjamin Moore paint color in a beautiful turquoise blue. The turquoise color is echoed in the tufted buttons on the custom headboard and trim around the linen roman shades on the window.
Aidan wanted a hangout room for her friends. We provided extra seating by adding a vintage revamped chair accessorized with a Jonathan Adler needle point “Love” pillow and a Moroccan pouf from Shabby chic. The desk from West Elm from their Parson’s collection expresses a grown up feel accompanied with the Saarinen Tulip chair. It’s easier for Aidan to do her homework when she feels organized and clutter free.
Organization was a big factor is redesigning the room. We had to work around mementos that soon-to-be teenagers collect by the truckloads. A custom bulletin board above the desk is a great place to tack party invitations and notes from friends. Also, the small Moda dresser from Room and Board stores books, magazines and makeup stored in baskets from the Container Store.
Aidan loves her room. It is bright and cheerful, yet cheeky and fun. It has a touch of sass and a “beachy” feel. This room will grow with her until she leaves for college and then comes back as a guest. Thanks to her father who wanted her to feel special, she is able to spend half her time in a room that reflects who she is.
Betty Wasserman Art & Interiors
This 7,000 square foot space located is a modern weekend getaway for a modern family of four. The owners were looking for a designer who could fuse their love of art and elegant furnishings with the practicality that would fit their lifestyle. They owned the land and wanted to build their new home from the ground up. Betty Wasserman Art & Interiors, Ltd. was a natural fit to make their vision a reality.
Upon entering the house, you are immediately drawn to the clean, contemporary space that greets your eye. A curtain wall of glass with sliding doors, along the back of the house, allows everyone to enjoy the harbor views and a calming connection to the outdoors from any vantage point, simultaneously allowing watchful parents to keep an eye on the children in the pool while relaxing indoors. Here, as in all her projects, Betty focused on the interaction between pattern and texture, industrial and organic.

While a common challenge of loft living is in creating an inviting environment, Weiss met this obstacle head-on. "You really have to put lots of pieces in place so it doesn't seem cold," she states.
Rather than fulfilling a wish-list of items and furnishings, Weiss takes a more emotive approach to choosing what she brings home. By loving every piece that she buys and then finding a place for it, she has created a relaxed environment where just about everything has a story.
The leather chair and ottoman, for example, had belonged to Weiss's parents. They had bought it brand new back in the 70s. "I was young," Weiss explains, "and I thought it was so ugly- eventually I fell in love with it!" She inherited the set about ten years ago, and has never lost appreciation for it.

All the furniture for this room was custom designed by us. The giant multi directional sofa is a huge hit with parents and kids, as is the eco friendly Plyboo toy storage credenza incorporating recycled plastic tubs.
