Kitchen with concrete floors & island bench,
lime green splashback. Plumbing for upstairs bathroom concealed in drop ceiling to kitchen. Clever idea that lets you make the rest of the room higher - only the bit where the plumbing needs to go is lower - also makes the kitchen look great with feature lighting.

Originally, this small kitchen with a peninsula counter and separate adjacent dining room was stifling, complete with dated and worn finishes.
The new kitchen space with large island and eat-in dining area is the result of an extensive renovation that opened up three smaller spaces into one large area. The new large format windows add a bright and airy feel to the kitchen area while the rustic stone finishes compliment the delicately glazed cabinets that change in elevation for added visual effect. The dark wood finish on the island bar that features a secondary sink, pot storage and natural stone tiles along the supporting column creates a focal point for this sprawling kitchen. Layered lighting, strategic paint schemes and a variety of refined yet rustic finishes make this kitchen with built-in laptop desk, display cabinet and bar seating the perfect space to entertain guests or enjoy a meal with family.

Our clients and their three teenage kids had outgrown the footprint of their existing home and felt they needed some space to spread out. They came in with a couple of sets of drawings from different architects that were not quite what they were looking for, so we set out to really listen and try to provide a design that would meet their objectives given what the space could offer.
We started by agreeing that a bump out was the best way to go and then decided on the size and the floor plan locations of the mudroom, powder room and butler pantry which were all part of the project. We also planned for an eat-in banquette that is neatly tucked into the corner and surrounded by windows providing a lovely spot for daily meals.
The kitchen itself is L-shaped with the refrigerator and range along one wall, and the new sink along the exterior wall with a large window overlooking the backyard. A large island, with seating for five, houses a prep sink and microwave. A new opening space between the kitchen and dining room includes a butler pantry/bar in one section and a large kitchen pantry in the other. Through the door to the left of the main sink is access to the new mudroom and powder room and existing attached garage.
White inset cabinets, quartzite countertops, subway tile and nickel accents provide a traditional feel. The gray island is a needed contrast to the dark wood flooring. Last but not least, professional appliances provide the tools of the trade needed to make this one hardworking kitchen.

In a house like this, a homey feel just feels right. This room was previously three pantries combined into one fairly large kitchen.

This Amber Dupioni silk chandelier over the table compliments the Swarovski pendants that are near the kitchen island, while coordinating and tying together the amber tones of the room. The dark wood dining table and chairs also tie together the wood cabinetry that is used for the island. Artichoke
Artichoke worked with the renowned interior designer Michael Smith to develop the style of this bespoke kitchen. The detailing of the furniture either side of the Wolf range is influenced by the American East Coast New England style, with chromed door catches and simple glazed wall cabinets. The extraction canopy is clad in zinc and antiqued with acid and wax.
The green painted larder cabinet contains food storage and refrigeration; the mouldings on this cabinet were inspired from a piece of Dutch antique furniture. The pot hanging rack enabled us to provide lighting over the island and saved littering the timbered ceiling with unsightly lighting. There is a pot filler tap and stainless steel splashback.
Primary materials: Hand painted cabinetry, steel and antiqued zinc.

Renovating a kitchen in an old house the challenge is always space. This was solved in this case by adding an addition for a bay window and recessed the clean up sink into the space. The window was raised by 10” over the standard height in order to increase natural light. The refrigerator wall was pushed 24” into the adjacent space which created the proper spacing for island and walkways, as well as centering the island on the adjacent dining room.
Ample space and symmetry were achieved through this renovation.
Richly hued traditional kitchen achieved through warm wood custom cabinetry and multiple levels of light. Under cabinet down lighting as well as recessed task lighting and stepped up ceiling with up lighting all combine to give warm and vibrancy to this historic home. A large center island provides prep space and seating while a bank of natural windows at the sink wall gives ample natural light.

This absolutely stunning cottage kitchen will catch your eye from the moment you set foot in the front door. Situated on an island up in the Muskoka region, this cottage is bathed in natural light, cooled by soothing cross-breezes off the lake, and surrounded by greenery outside the windows covering almost every wall. The distressed and antiqued spanish cedar cabinets and island are complemented by white quartz countertops and a fridge and pantry finished with antiqued white panels. Ambient lighting, fresh flowers, and a set of classic, wooden stools add to the warmth and character of this fabulous hosting space - perfect for the beautiful family who lives there!⠀
