Performance Kitchens & Home
A kitchen remodel is something that many people want and for good reason. Kitchens are often the heart of a home and are the place where family and friends gather to meet and share the joys of living. Since the earliest times, food has been a unifying factor that brings us all together and the kitchen is uniting factor.
Beyond the social enhancement that a kitchen remodel provides, a well-done project can make a significant positive contribution to your home's value.
In order to make the most of your kitchen remodel it is important to make the most of the basics and minimize the emphasis on flavor-of-the-month trends. Today’s home buyers are savvier than ever and focus their attention on things like cabinets, countertops and lighting.
Color is the thing that really brings a kitchen to life and choosing the right paint is a relatively inexpensive way to create great resale value with enlivening one of the most important places in your home. At Performance Kitchens we recommend to our clients that they select traditional and timeless color schemes. White and cream colors are rich and warm but neutral enough to accommodate most appliances and décor items. You can also choose stronger color choices like blacks and grays but work with your designer, who can help you envision how the kitchen will look when completed.
Kitchen cabinets are probably the most important investment you can make in your kitchen remodel process. There are many different types of kitchen cabinets but the two ingredients you should consider when selecting cabinets is the quality of their manufacture and their space conserving design.
Cabinets can be sourced from many places today, but you should pay close attention to the quality of the wood and how it is cured and finished. This can make all the difference in the world and the last thing you want is to be 5 years in on your kitchen only to find that your cabinets are chipping or warping. Choose the quality of your cabinets carefully.
Having your kitchen designer carefully place your cabinets for maximum ergonomic flow, accessibility and storage capacity is also critically important. A good kitchen designer will come up with a cabinet plan that transforms your kitchen and makes it more useful and accessible.
A kitchen backsplash is the ideal element to add or upgrade in terms of investment since initial cost is low while the visual impact is high. Metal, ceramic and glass tiles are sure to attract attention
Another important element in a new kitchen are the kitchen countertops. Today there is a huge range of options that include granite marble, laminate, stainless steel, composites and many others. One countertop material that is a favorite is quartz. Quartz countertops are typically a composite of minerals and resins, quartz that make it a nearly perfect material for countertops. It looks like natural stone but is harder than natural stone, plus it is completely impenetrable by foods and liquids and will not scratch like solid surface.
Furthermore, quartz countertops can express different looks and textures that range from a traditional stone look to more trendy looks like concrete and other industrial materials.
Kitchen lighting is also an important feature that needs to be carefully considered. Not only does a well-designed lighting package illuminate your beautiful kitchen, the lighting itself can become an object of attention.
Below are some pictures of a recent kitchen remodel that we did.

Classic yet stylish bay windows painted in white. This replacement project was focused on increasing energy efficiency and complementing the house exterior.

This picture was taken in the last of the three guest bedrooms located on the 3rd floor. Since the french door and balcony was a pivotal aspect of this room, we felt it was best to focus on this area. Here we can see how the cremone handle with full length meeting rails really adds a lot to the style of the space. The central handle operates two sliding bolts (rails), one upwards and one downwards into the threshold.

Canvas Prints - Canvas printing provides a near-original representation of the original artwork. The lack of gloss sheen in canvas print allows the viewers to solely focus on the picture details without being distracted. Three edge treatments are available as well: plain white, all black, and wrapped-artwork. Framing and installation is available at some additional charge. For canvas wrapped prints a floating frame is generally our first recommendation.
Calum Duncan Architects Ltd
This 1960 house was remodelled to create a contemporary open-plan living space to the ground floor, with the focus on maximising its elevated position and views across the city skyline and Arthur’s Seat.
The living area has been opened up, front and back, to bring a much greater sense of spaciousness. The removal of a large chimney breast from the front elevation and replacement with full width glazing allows the owners to enjoy uninterrupted panoramic views of the city. The Living Dining space also, better connected to the south facing garden, now makes the most of the available garden space, sun and city vies. Internally the house is fresh and modern, bringing the function and atmosphere appropriate to the family needs.
Upstairs an extension was formed above an existing ground floor extension to create a light-filled main bedroom suite. A large picture window captures the elevated views to the north, and a Juliet balcony connects the room to the south facing garden.
These alterations and additions could have felt rather ‘piecemeal,' but we have worked hard to use materials, colour and the form for the new elements to gives the house an overall consistency and integrity. The pattern of timber and light coloured render allowed the house to have its own fresh and modern character.
The Design Chapel
The focus as an interior designer was to make the tight spaces in the 2bhk look spacious and open by using an uniform colour palette that envelops the entire house. This room has been designed as a calming sanctuary where the couple can relax, watch netflix and chill after a long day of work.

This open plan handleless kitchen was designed for an architect, who drew the original plans for the layout as part of a contemporary new-build home project for him and his family. The new house has a very modern design with extensive use of glass throughout. The kitchen itself faces out to the garden with full-height panel doors with black surrounds that slide open entirely to bring the outside in during the summer months. To reflect the natural light, the Intuo kitchen furniture features polished glass door and drawer fronts in Lava and Fango colourways to complement the marble floor tiles that are also light-reflective.
We designed the kitchen to specification, with the main feature being a large T-shaped island in the 5.8m x 9m space. The concept behind the island’s shape was to have a full preparation and surface cooking space with the sink run behind it, while the length of the island would be used for dining and socialising, with bar stool seating in recesses on either side. Further soft-close drawers are on either side at the end. The raised Eternal Marfil worktop by Silestone is 80mm thick with square edging.
The preparation area is 3.2m wide and features a contrasting 20mm thick Eternal Marfil worktop with Shark’s nose edging to provide easy access to the stainless-steel recessed handle rails to the deep drawers at the front and sides of the island. At the centre is a Novy Panorama
PRO 90, with an integrated ventilation tower that rises when extraction is required and then retracts back into the hob’s surface when cooking has ended. For this reason, no overhead extraction was required for this kitchen. Directly beneath the hob are pull-out storage units and there are further deep drawers on either side for pans and plates.
To the left of the island are tall handleless glass-fronted cabinets within a 600mm recess, featuring a broom cupboard at one end and a Neff integrated fridge freezer at the other. A bank of Neff side-by-side cooking appliances make the central focus and include two single pyrolytic ovens, a combination microwave and an integrated coffee machine together with accessory drawers. Further storage cupboards are above and below each appliance.
The sink run is situated beneath a long rectangular picture window with a black metal surround. Directly above it is a run of glazed cabinets, all by Intuo, with black glass surrounds, with one double-height to the left of the window. The cabinets all store glassware and crockery and they are backlit to make a feature of them at night. Functional pull-out storage cupboards sit beneath the worktop, including pull-out bins, together with a 60cm integrated dishwasher on either side of the sink unit. An undermount single bowl and separate half bowl sink by Axixuno are all cladded in stone to match the pale walls and the tap is by Quooker.
The feature wall is painted in Caramel crunch by Dulux. The bar stools by Danetti were chosen by our client to complement this striking colour, and crockery was chosen to match. The pendant lights are taper by Franklite.

The water feature was carefully integrated into the overall design of the garden. Views of the water feature vary depending on your position, but the primary focus was out of the large picture windows in the family room.

This wonderful traditional house is located on the edge of Hampton Bays and faces magnificent eastern water views. The room is flooded with early morning light so intense that medium to heavy sun screen shades were installed to filter the light diffusing but not blocking the view. A palate of neutral colors was assembled so that the bay view and beaches remained the focus of the room. The furniture plan as seen from the overhead picture divided the room into two comfortable seating areas. The large rug for budget purposes is made from broadloom carpet and detailed with a cut piled border. The large rug is the background that visually hinges the two seating groups together. Each seating group has different furniture each have a ottoman with tray serving as a coffee table. The fine metal table behind the sofa allows flowers or other object to be centrally displayed. The crimson red upholstered swivel chairs turn outward toward the scenic view. A tiered metal chandelier was hung from the highest ceiling height and adds intimacy to this large great room setting. The most important change to the architecture of the room was to remove the columns and replacement of them with a design of a series of arches integrated with the balustrade above visually creating more balance architectural appearance.

This elegant French Country Masterbath project was designed and created for a client from 6 years ago. 6 years ago, Karen & Dan used us solely for window treatments. This time is was to refresh and redo 4 bathrooms in their home on as reasonably priced a budget as possible. Why? They know they are likely moving in 3-5 years, but want to sell at a great price.
Every bathroom was redesigned with careful focus on style and budget. The Masterbath was a completely gut, but reasonably priced cabinets, tub and tile were used throughout. All other bathrooms just had certain aspects changed with the most costly reno areas staying untouched.
You’d be pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the budget was for everything…give us a call to find out!

A simple stone knee wall encloses the front porch, which has ample space for parking outdoor equipment. Horizontal windows provide views from the kitchen counter to see if guests are approaching. A seven foot square picture window frames the view into the dining room and out through to the bluff beyond. The owners requested a house that would focus on celebrating the land, and so the entrance leads your gaze straight through to the outdoors on the other side.
