A New Year’s resolution to spend more time reading inspired this trio of nooks. Each space was designed to reflect a time and place influenced by a different book. The rooms tells a visual story through the use of patterns, color, object, and decor.
The Hands Of Sean Perry
These Buncombe County homeowners were looking for a fun, postmodern space to host friends and family on their restful 40-acre mountain retreat, which includes their main home, a studio, and a cottage. With the assignment of two complete exterior and interior renovations for the ancillary quarters, The Hands of Sean Perry Co. got to work transforming the studio and cottage spaces into the getaway of this owner’s dreams.
Both structures received major upgrades, including refinishing the existing textured stucco for a smoother, clean aesthetic and also installing Americana thermally modified ash siding, custom built-in furniture, storage solutions and zinc roofing throughout.
Built into a hillside, the studio needed additional drainage support to prevent water from collecting against the foundation. To ensure its structural integrity for years to come, the team built a J drain mat into the walls and tied it into the floor system under the concrete slab.
In the cottage, the crew completed extensive renovations, including a new ladder and rail loft area — the perfect nook for cozying up to read on a rainy afternoon.

Specht Novak Architects
A new modern house in a sustainable community - Dallas, TX.
Specht Harpman designed this 1,800 sf house, which stretches across a steep ravine, to make the most of its spectacular views and connections to the community. With green architecture as a guiding principle, this house serves as an index of both sustainability and affordability. The large social and gathering space takes advantage of the long views to the west, while the smaller private spaces are clustered toward the street. Sustainable features include geothermal heating and cooling, green materials throughout, and low-water native landscape design.

POSTMODERN ‘WOW’
We were hired to turn a ‘‘white box’’ bathroom into a high impact hotel-esq luxury space.
Style cues were Victorian, mid century and Scandi. Our challenge was to fit both a walk in shower and freestanding bath into this modest room.
Mid century cues were released in the geometry of the tiling lines and monochrome chevron floor, while high gloss green tiles are reminiscent of Victorian subways. Modern brushed gold hardware gives the bathroom a slick contemporary feel.
