Antique Brown Granite (actually looks black) on white cabinets along the walls and Millennium Cream Granite on the espresso island cabinets. The clients wanted seating at the island without sacrificing any of the walkway, so we used a concave radius to create a breakfast area. The edge profile is Extreme Bevel (1" Bevel).

This contemporary kitchen balances the lightness of white countertops with the dark chocolate stained rift oak cabinets and a granite slab island that pulls it all together. The clients’ wanted a working kitchen that allows a cook and separate prep cook to work together without interference while keeping the clean lines of the entire space. Upon a closer look it has hidden gems enhancing its efficiency and functionality. The glass tile backsplash not only adds a touch of luster but it easy to clean. Just across the range top is a six inch deep cabinet within reach containing all the necessary spices and oils. Hidden right next to the pantry is a cork board and ironing board making this space both beautiful and mult-ifunctional. The island is a divider to the main living space, a place to store cookbooks and wine bottles, and also provides enough space for guests and a prep area. The bar area boasts a second sink, chilled wine refrigerator and a built in coffee machine so that anyone can obtain their favorite beverage without interfering with the rest of the space. With all of this in view from the main living area it was important that it still maintains the feel of a living space and not just a kitchen. Incorporating cabinets that show the collection of colorful dishes behind reeded glass along with a display shelf above the sink not only prove to be useful but draws the eye to the beauty of the space. This kitchen that is both functional with every square inch and maintains the clients’ desires for honest clean lines creates stunning first impression while also creating an inviting environment.

This kitchen features Venetian Gold Granite Counter tops, White Linen glazed custom cabinetry on the parameter and Gunstock stain on the island, the vent hood and around the stove. The Flooring is American Walnut in varying sizes. There is a natural stacked stone on as the backsplash under the hood with a travertine subway tile acting as the backsplash under the cabinetry. Two tones of wall paint were used in the kitchen. Oyster bar is found as well as Morning Fog.

The project we recently completed was contracted by one of our long time partners in Design- Debbie Davis at Studio Design. The island measures at 85x45, material is 3cm Patagonia Granite from Galleria of Stone. The edge is built up to a flat 3” miter all around. The stone has a large amount of natural quartz stone throughout the slab, and this quartz is translucent. We built a special board of LED panels to place underneath to enhance the area where the quartz passes the light through. The perimeter is 3cm Listra from Penta Quartz, it is a solid quartz color that does not compete but is rather a complimentary to the Patagonia slab on the island. Timothy J Gormley

Calacatta Jubilee is a bright white quartz with distinctive “veins” strewn throughout. This grey veining pattern sweeps across its white backdrop, giving the material the appearance of natural stone. Black Mist is quarried in a bedrock quarry in Brazil. This granite will have some white quartz veins along with areas of gray, with a black background, the look of this stone is similar to a soapstone, but it will require less maintenance than a soapstone.

For this kitchen renovation, the homeowners wanted to keep their oak cabinets but wanted to freshen up and modernize their space. I changed the cabinet hardware, took down some 80s wallpaper, got new appliances and beautiful new granite countertops. I also had a custom backsplash made by Mercury Mosaics. The old dinette set was dated so I had a custom table and chairs made. Small changes helped bring a dated kitchen into the present.

The beautiful hand-hammered custom pewter hood, framed in painted woodwork and in-set cabinetry and the spacious, fourteen foot ceilings are the focal points of this kitchen. Co-designer: Janie Petkus of Janie Petkus Interiors, Hinsdale IL.
