This charming European-inspired home juxtaposes old-world architecture with more contemporary details. The exterior is primarily comprised of granite stonework with limestone accents. The stair turret provides circulation throughout all three levels of the home, and custom iron windows afford expansive lake and mountain views. The interior features custom iron windows, plaster walls, reclaimed heart pine timbers, quartersawn oak floors and reclaimed oak millwork.

Dark & Sexy Master bathroom
*project in process- this is an artistic rendering used to communicate design direction and share options.
the client fell in love with this black and white soaking tub and so we built an option around it for him to see,.
The floor tile is 12 x 24 black porcelain with a gold inline vertical line- a small but beautiful detail.
The shower has mitered edges for a seamless edge effect.
Vanities float off of the floor for a clean linear modern aesthetic.
White marble is used at the countertop and to highlight the tup area at the floor.

Industrial Romantic Design Enlivens Art Collector’s Home in San Francisco, California’s Cow Hollow Neighborhood
Our work on this single-family residence in Cow Hollow emphasizes modernizing the interior and showcasing our clients’ art collection. We devised the concept of “radical insertions” to marry the existing style of the house with an aggressively new vocabulary of materials and forms. Pigmented steel railings and trellises, brushed aluminum cabinets, cast concrete counters, glass shelves and Color FinPly cabinets are among the new elements that coexist with retained older elements. The built-ins were designed as sculptural elements. At the top floor, segmented, curving bathroom walls incline outward to create a drum form and the subtly curving guest cabinet conceals a Murphy bed allowing one large space to double as a guest bedroom. A new deck and kitchen share a dramatic curving steel and glass trellis creating a visual link between interior and exterior.

This small space was once the main parking area for this cottage lakeside home and was radically transformed into an intimate and inviting courtyard. Defined by a hand stacked fieldstone wall, granite stepping stones lead from the entrance of the garden and gradually wind their way over a stream bed and lead to the porch that borders the garden. Although set in a cold weather climate, the client requested that the garden be developed to have a lush tropical feeling yet remain consistent with the general surroundings. This was achieved by using a mixture of large leafed perennials such as Ligularia, Hosta and Petasites (Butterbur) ,along with various groundcovers and other perennials including Ferns, Iris and Japanese Forest Grass. The central feature of the garden is a naturalized meandering stream and pond filled with Koi. The use of water in the garden thematically ties the house and courtyard to the homes’ surrounding, an adjacent lake, and adds movement and tranquil sound to the space. Stepping stones appear to float across the surface of the water allowing the visitor another way to enjoy the space. Scale is essential with even the smallest detail needing to be well executed within such limited space.

Rather than starting with an outcome in mind, this 1,400 square foot residence began from a polemic place - exploring shared conviction regarding the concentrated power of living with a smaller footprint. From the gabled silhouette to passive ventilation, the home captures the nostalgia for the past with the sustainable practices of the future.
While the exterior materials contrast a calm, minimal palette with the sleek lines of the gabled silhouette, the interior spaces embody a playful, artistic spirit. From the hand painted De Gournay wallpaper in the master bath to the rugged texture of the over-grouted limestone and Portuguese cobblestones, the home is an experience that encapsulates the unexpected and the timeless.

At 90 square feet, this tiny kitchen is smaller than most bathrooms. Add to that four doorways and a window and you have one tough little room.
The key to this type of space is the selection of compact European appliances. The fridge is completely enclosed in cabinetry as is the 45cm dishwasher. Sink selection and placement allowed for a very useful corner storage cabinet. Drawers and additional storage are accommodated along the existing wall space right of the rear porch door. Note the careful planning how the casings of this door are not compromised by countertops. This tiny kitchen even features a pull-out pantry to the left of the fridge.
The retro look is created by using laminate cabinets with aluminum edges; that is reiterated in the metal-edged laminate countertop. Marmoleum flooring and glass tiles complete the look.
