With no windows or natural light, we used a combination of artificial light, open space, and white walls to brighten this master bath remodel. Over the white, we layered a sophisticated palette of finishes that embrace color, pattern, and texture: 1) long hex accent tile in “lemongrass” gold from Walker Zanger (mounted vertically for a new take on mid-century aesthetics); 2) large format slate gray floor tile to ground the room; 3) textured 2X10 glossy white shower field tile (can’t resist touching it); 4) rich walnut wraps with heavy graining to define task areas; and 5) dirty blue accessories to provide contrast and interest. A newly retired couple had purchased their 1989 home because it offered everything they needed on one level. He loved that the house was right on the Mississippi River with access for docking a boat. She loved that there was two bedrooms on the Main Level, so when the grandkids came to stay, they had their own room. The dark, traditional style kitchen with wallpaper and coffered ceiling felt closed off from the adjacent Dining Room and Family Room. Although the island was large, there was no place for seating. We removed the peninsula and reconfigured the kitchen to create a more functional layout that includes 9-feet of 18-inch deep pantry cabinets The new island has seating for four and is orientated to the window that overlooks the back yard and river. Flat-paneled cabinets in a combination of horizontal wood and semi-gloss white paint add to the modern, updated look. A large format tile (24” x 24”) runs throughout the kitchen and into the adjacent rooms for a continuous, monolithic look.

We added a steam shower in the lower level bath by removing a bookcase from the guest bedroom and stealing a few inches from the future hobby room. Now, they have a 42” x 63” steam shower, which includes a cold-water mist. This spa bathroom has painted grey cabinets, Cambria counter and bench tops, wood-tile floors and accent tiles of rocks in the shower on floor and wall, along with a heated floor and towel bar. The family room cabinets already existed; we added doors to open shelves and painted all of the cabinets a mushroom color and Cambria counter tops.

A dated, all white bathroom gets a face lift. The client desired to remodel their Master Bathroom into a charming & relaxing space, while staying within the existing footprint. In this Golden Valley, MN bathroom remodel, the traditional style fixtures coordinate with other elements in the home and a warm color palette with accents of green was selected to coordinate with Master Bedroom. Some of the client’s favorite features is the new vanity with a counter wall cabinet for storage of toiletries & make up. A make-up mirror is mounted on the side and folds back and out of the way. Brushed gold finishes on the plumbing & light fixtures blend nicely with the warm tones of the marble tile. A damask print wallcovering of green & gold along with the honed green granite counter top compliments the green color palette in the Master Bedroom. The raised granite ledge on the side of the tub is a great place set a candle or glass of wine while relaxing in the new bubble massage air bath by Kohler. A recessed niche above the toilet adds character to the toilet/tub room, while crown and tile base moulding finish off the room nicely.
