A classic New England antique home elevated by the gardens that surround it. A mix of native plants and easy-care perennials frame every nook and cranny of this stunning property.

The homeowners wanted their basement to be an exciting and varied entertainment space for the whole family. For the children’s favorite activities, the architects designed spaces for a dance studio, craft area, Murphy beds for sleepovers and an indoor sports court.

Example of a trendy living room design in San Francisco with white walls

Alder wood custom cabinetry in this hallway bathroom with a Braziilian Cherry wood floor features a tall cabinet for storing linens surmounted by generous moulding. There is a bathtub/shower area and a niche for the toilet. The white undermount double sinks have bronze faucets by Santec complemented by a large framed mirror.

This house began as a typical, low-lying split-level. You can still see the garage, main level, and upper/lower split on the right. We designed a new story above, with turned-gable roof lines to complement the main roof. The entire house was remodeled, plus we designed a screened porch and patio / fire pit for the rear yard.

SeaBend is sited dramatically on a bluff, embracing a commanding view of a New England. The house is long and narrow, mostly one room deep, so that all the major rooms are open to both the north water views and the south sun, with breezes blowing through. The plan is geared to informal living, with the kitchen in the center to serve both indoor and outdoor living areas.
Part of the fun was in seeing what happened when a broad gabled volume was bent to respond to the contours of the site and to begin to suggest an outdoor space on the water side. Keeping the gable roof un-bent while putting a crook in the plan resulted in some curious volumes and unexpected shapes, which you discover as you move around the house.

Complete restructure of this lower level. What was once a theater in this space I now transformed into a basketball court. It turned out to be the ideal space for a basketball court since the space had a awkward 6 ft drop in the old theater ....John Carlson Photography

Pineapple House employed windows and doors that could remain open to circulate fresh air. Solar heat and intensity of natural light is regulated by door and window treatments integrated into the perimeter molding in primary rooms. They stack back in the corners and almost "disappear" when they aren't needed.
