We relocated the bathroom to an adjacent sitting room that had 8’ ceilings and was flooded with natural light. At twice the size of the old bathroom, the new location had ample space to create a true second master bathroom complete with soaking tub, walk-in shower and 5’ vanity. We used the same classic marble finishes throughout which provides continuity and maintains the elegant and timeless look befitting this historic mansion.

Our clients came to us looking to do some updates to their new condo unit primarily in the kitchen and living room. The couple has a lifelong love of Arts and Crafts and Modernism, and are the co-founders of PrairieMod, an online retailer that offers timeless modern lifestyle through American made, handcrafted, and exclusively designed products. So, having such a design savvy client was super exciting for us, especially since the couple had many unique pieces of pottery and furniture to provide inspiration for the design.
The condo is a large, sunny top floor unit, with a large open feel. The existing kitchen was a peninsula which housed the sink, and they wanted to change that out to an island, relocating the new sink there as well. This can sometimes be tricky with all the plumbing for the building potentially running up through one stack. After consulting with our contractor team, it was determined that our plan would likely work and after confirmation at demo, we pushed on.
The new kitchen is a simple L-shaped space, featuring several storage devices for trash, trays dividers and roll out shelving. To keep the budget in check, we used semi-custom cabinetry, but added custom details including a shiplap hood with white oak detail that plays off the oak “X” endcaps at the island, as well as some of the couple’s existing white oak furniture. We also mixed metals with gold hardware and plumbing and matte black lighting that plays well with the unique black herringbone backsplash and metal barstools. New weathered oak flooring throughout the unit provides a nice soft backdrop for all the updates. We wanted to take the cabinets to the ceiling to obtain as much storage as possible, but an angled soffit on two of the walls provided a bit of a challenge. We asked our carpenter to field modify a few of the wall cabinets where necessary and now the space is truly custom.
Part of the project also included a new fireplace design including a custom mantle that houses a built-in sound bar and a Panasonic Frame TV, that doubles as hanging artwork when not in use. The TV is mounted flush to the wall, and there are different finishes for the frame available. The TV can display works of art or family photos while not in use. We repeated the black herringbone tile for the fireplace surround here and installed bookshelves on either side for storage and media components.

Unique Lifestyle Projects
After recently re-designing and installing our Blue Haven clients' Bathroom and Laundry last year, we had the excellent opportunity to re-imagine their outdated and tiny 1990s Kitchen.
The original kitchen had a very impractical, cramped and restrictive layout, with very limited bench space, small amount of storage space and outdated features.
We were able to redesign and change the spatial layout to maximise on the available blueprint floor space for a more practical, open kitchen with an abundance of storage.
The Benchtop was extended to align with the Hallway Entry wall for added benchtop length, giving the client added ample space for a concealed Pull Out Bin, drawers and new Dishwasher - which they didn't have before.
The pantry was taken out and replaced with ample sized fridge, with the pantry allocated beside it closer to cooking amenities with internal Blum Antaro Soft Close drawers for storage. A Microwave pigeon hole was created between upper and lower pantries for benchtop level accessibility.
The Oven was relocated to the centre of the U Shape Design, to create a working triangle in the kitchen. This allows for better efficiency, flow and functionality in the kitchen.
The Overhead Cabinets were extended to full height to maximise storage space, and give a modern contemporary feel. Utilising every aspect of space was essential to get the best outcome for the limited floor size.
The quality of the cabinets was upgraded to 2 Pack Polyurethane Satin (Matte) finish in Dulux Snowy Mountains Half with Sharknose Profile Handles.
For a real coastal contemporary feel, we used Polytec Angora Oak Woodmatt, which is a gorgeous neutral wood textured MDF board as a fine boarder for our white cabinets and backing board for the Benchtop and Curved Edged Shelving. The Cutout Box Shelves overhead are a nod to the Laundry design completed last year for consistency in styling.
Upgrading the quality of the benchtop from 90s Blue Laminate to Quantum Quartz Riveria Stone in 20mm Aris Profile elevated the look. Combined with creating a beautiful soft curve to the corner of the benchtop meeting the hallway allowed a 1200mm wide benchtop without impeding the Bedroom Hallway opening.
Finished with Dulux Painted Glass Spashback in Dieskau Half Strength allows for an easy to clean surface that doesn't date with time.
Hardware features Brushed Stainless Steel and Black highlights for a premium look. The Gooseneck Pullout Handle for the Basin is a must have in any kitchen, for its ability to direct the water exactly where it needs to go.
