Another Ernst signature is the "shadow line" stone base detail. This detail allows for your base to be flush with your wall finish rather than protruding.

Old Church House underwent an extensive internal renovation and interior makeover that transformed this beautiful but previously rather dark, damp and somewhat tired house into an elegant, light filled home. It’s now bursting with rich, understated textures with occasional pops of colour, with some tasteful modern interventions that highlight the beautiful heritage features of the original building

For this Falls Church family, the need for a new spacious and bright kitchen to replace their small and dark kitchen was long overdue. The previous arrangement of the kitchen island and adjacent column limited the space and expanse of the kitchen space.
By removing the nearby central column and replacing the previous island with a large new island oriented parallel to the new stove top, created a more open space including new storage space and seating capacity.
The kitchen island's white quartzite/granite counter top along with the added pendant lights, adds to the brightness of the new kitchen. The maple/dove white cabinetry with cinder glaze and stainless steel appliances provide further brightness and openness to the kitchen.
The cherry/kaffe island panels and new hardwood floor maintains the classic look and balances the all white cabinets and counter tops. New lighting under the cabinets further adds brightness to the kitchen.
This lovely kitchen remodel brings in new light to this lovely home.
Piperbear Designs
Located in Church Hill, Richmond’s oldest neighborhood, this very early 1900s Victorian had tons of historical details, but the house itself had been neglected (badly!). The home had two major renovation periods – one in 1950’s, and then again in the 1980s’s, which covered over or disrupted the original aesthetics of the house (think open ductwork, framing and drywall obscuring the beautiful mantels and moldings, and the hot water heater taking up valuable kitchen space). Our Piperbear team had to “undo” much before we could tackle the restoration of the historical features, while at the same time modernizing the layout.

This woodburning fireplace in the fellowship area of the Northgate church originally had a brick chimney breast clad in mottled 1980s brick. To provide a more contemporary look AOJA designed an oak paneled chimney breast, and faced the remaining brickwork in slate tile. Closet doors flank this fireplace.

We loved doing this kitchen. Our stainless steel cabinets worked great with there marble countertops, white subway tiles, and the beautiful glass that they inserted into the wall cabinets. Very functional and sustainable.
