Hideaway, Le Marche - San Marino, Italy
A historical Hideaway.
Image courtesy of the realtor, Leo Trippi.
A well-hidden place where the spirit finds its peace, nested between the Romagna, the Marches and Tuscany. Entering the gate, one leaves behind the pace of chaotic lives, and abandons itself to the joy of living of this ancient land. It is meant to be understood as a site of experience, where nature, culture, history and pleasure are elevated to the centre of things in order to finally rediscover it in oneself. A sort of “back to the simplicity”, aiming to dedicate oneself to observation and drawing from it valuable experiences for one’s life. Each of the three houses presents itself as an unexpected world in its own right, closed in on itself and yet a harmonious part of the whole, waiting to be enlivened by lively laughter, animated conversation and playfulness. This territory is a paradise for lovers of nature and the great outdoors. The sheer variety of places and landscapes enables visitors to take excursions on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike. History and architecture enthusiasts can follow an itinerary of strongholds and castles dotted around the area. Lovers of gourmet food will discover a full range of traditional dishes and quality local produce all year round. The rich variety of museums enables exploration into the rural arts, medieval architecture, archaeological finds and contemporary art.

The design of the newly remodeled and enlarged home builds on the underlying good bones of the original house. The vertical tower became the main pivot point and focal point to the home with the addition of a spiral stair to a new third floor room at the top of the stairs. The tower is clad in stone veneer and includes new windows that bring southwestern light into the center of the home. The stone veneer continues along the base of the building with new horizontal cedar siding above. The horizontal planes and spaces of the home pinwheel from the central vertical stair tower, crowned in a unique room at the top.
The new work, in addition to the tower, includes all exterior finishes, and many new windows, a more welcoming entry with a covered porch and new landscaping steps, a remodeled and enlarged home office with stone veneered interior walls, a remodeled powder room, a kitchen addition and remodeling of rich and varied materials, and a new family room space with a spacious deck located above the garage for entertaining. The new family room links the kitchen and outdoor deck visually.

This humble yet sophisticated home was constructed in an existing subdivision filled with mature trees and overlooking a golf course. The 'harbor gray' colored siding is accented with cedar shake siding in the gables. The craftsman-style white pillars, coupled with cultured stone, add character and richness to the appearance of the house.

Billabong Men's Suite 206
Casa Surf Project - Casa de la Camino Hotel, Laguna Beach, CA.
10 Surf Companies were paired with 10 designers to create Casa Surf. The historic boutique hotel in the heart of Laguna has become part of the Riviera Magazine Design series to create the Casa Surf Project. One truly unique project. Visit the Casa Surf website for views of these 10 incredibly rich and exciting rooms. www.casasurfproject.com.
Interior Art was assigned 6 rooms, six different designers, 6 surf companies to help create ambience through the backdrop details for each space in this historical property in Laguna Beach.
In Billabong Men's Suite, we designed, developed and performed a hybrid mix of Venetian Plasters in the bathroom & on the headboard wall in the bedroom to create this finish we call "Concrete Plaster" as an organic, contemporary wall treatment strong enough in look & feel to hold up to the look and feel of the esteemed brand of Billabong Men's coupled with Grace Blu Design's ecclectic mix of organic, contemporary, retro feel to the design of this room. The lead designer of Billabong International walked through, approached our walls and declared, "That's the coolest wall finish I've seen". This was a very cool project! We loved being a part of Casa Surf!
Please visit Jacqueline Coburn's Interior Art project files for a glimpse into the world of specialty paints & faux finishes. We'll share with you a peek at the multitudes of award-winning specialty venetian plasters, faux finishes and custom art we have performed in the backdrops of extraordinary interiors over the years. We hope to inspire you through conscious design!
