Dwell, Dan Brunn & BONE Structure collaborate in Los Angeles In partnership with Dwell, Dan Brunn Architecture is bringing a new kind of residence to Hancock Park in Los Angeles. Bridge House stretches 210 feet across the grounds, straddling a brook in an architectural maneuver that gives the project its name. When principal Dan Brunn purchased the property, his initial plan had been to renovate the existing home. The seeds of Bridge House were sown, however, when he visited the Breakers in Newport, Rhode Island. Though the Italian Renaissance-style mansion that was the Vanderbilt family’s summer retreat is a far cry from the modern profile of Bridge House, it sparked an idea for Brunn.

Perkins Eastman designed a new 55,000 sf dining destination that serves as the focal point for uniting and reinvigorating the South Village neighborhood of the UNC Charlotte campus. The new building serves as a dynamic gathering space for students to eat and socialize. The Lower Level is a full Market Place Dining Facility while the Upper Level incorporates Neighborhood Lounges for students to gather, socialize, study and enjoy the views of Davis Lake. The Spark Modern Fire 3 Sided Vu-Thru Fire Ribbons were used to divide the upper level into neighborhoods to create more intimate spaces. The fireplaces have wide \"hearths\" that can also be used for seating. The surrounds use contemporary earth tone horizontally banded tiles with gypsum board surrounds in bright energizing colors. The fireplaces added warmth (both literally and figuratively) to a dynamic space with direct connections to the beautiful wooded site. The project was awarded three out of four Green Globes by the U.S. Green Building Initiative's Green Globe Rating system demonstrating excellent progress in achieving eco-efficiency results through current best practices in energy and environmental design. Functionality was another significant issue; the space was disjointed and inefficient. During the design phase, they collaborated with our in-house designer and one of the initial steps involved updating the color palette to infuse the design with a contemporary and quietness sense. The outdated cabinets were lacking in storage space, so we upgraded them to Solid Designer Series Corona Oyster Clear Alder cabinets, paired with Bianco Pearl Quartz countertops with a waterfall edge on the left side. The Jeffrey Alexander Boswell cabinet handles, coupled with the Delta Trinsic Widespread Faucets, infuse the space with a sense of elegance and vintage feel, completely transforming the room's overall feel. The old bathtub was no longer working, so they decided to add a large custom shower that included a wet area, pony wall, and dry-off area. They chose the Annie Selke Flora Coconut Milk Porcelain 18x18" tile to create a stunning wall. To craft a showstopper, we adorned the shower floor with Pebble Mosaic Warm Blend, achieving a breathtaking result. The remaining shower fixtures were impeccably selected to bring the dream shower to life. With the expertise and guidance from our team, Barbara & Gary have turned their old bathroom into their dream space, enhancing not only the property's value but also their daily living experience.
