The Artful Mix appeals to our clients who are not tied to convention and have a playful or adventurous spirit. Here spaces stimulate the senses with sophisticated layering – antiques with modern art; elaborately carved mirrors with rows of crisp white pottery. It can be deceptively simple when you break down the individual elements, but the real success lies in the masterful application of color, geometric patterns and sculptural pieces.

Remodel to a timber frame and adobe brick house originally built from a design by renowned mid-century modern architect Cliff May. We modernized the house – opening walls, bringing in light, converting a garage to a master suite and updating everything – while carefully preserving and restoring the original details of the house. Original adobe bricks, redwood timbers, and patterned tiles and other materials were salvaged and repurposed within the project. Period details such as louvered vents below the window sills were retained and repaired. The kitchen was designed to accommodate very specific wishes of the clients for ease of use and supporting their lifestyle. The original house beautifully interlocks with the landscape and the remodel furthers the indoor-outdoor relationships. New materials are simple and earthy in keeping with the original character of the house. We designed the house to be a calm retreat from the bustle of Silicon Valley.

A durable, meaningful design heals a devastated residential property bordering Acadia National Park and Somes Sound on Maine’s Mount Desert Island. Comprehensive stormwater management strategies shape new landforms, resulting in elegant grading and thoughtful drainage solutions. Native plant colonies stabilize the site, regenerate habitat, and reveal wildlife patterns. Exquisitely crafted new masonry, built from an authentic palette of local reclaimed materials, gives the garden a unified, established feel. Lichen-encrusted stone retaining walls define edges, thresholds, and overlooks, and thick slabs of salvaged granite embedded in the earth provide gathering terraces and pathways. With balance restored, brilliant seasonal drama unfolds.

While renovating their home located on a horse farm in Bedford, NY, it wasn’t surprising this husband and wife (who also is an equestrian) wanted their house to have a “barn feel”. To start, sourced reclaimed wood was used on the walls, floors and ceiling beams. This traditional kitchen, designed by Paulette Gambacorta, features Bilotta Collection cabinetry in a flush flat panel custom green paint with a glaze on maple. An added detail of a “crossbuck” end on the peninsula was custom made from reclaimed wood and inspired by the look of barn doors. Reclaimed wood shelves on iron brackets replaced upper cabinets for easy access. The marble countertops have a hand cut edge detail to resemble the look of when the stone was first quarried. An antique carpenter’s work bench was restored by the builder, for use as an island and extra work station. An apron front sink and a wains panel backsplash completed the barn look and feel.

Bedroom - mid-sized contemporary master carpeted and beige floor bedroom idea in Miami with white walls and no fireplace

A rural hillside residence in Downeast Maine serves as a model for regenerating fragmented native plant communities and restoring damaged site systems. Sensible land management practices guide the homeowner’s efforts to rehabilitate expansive areas of mown lawn. Spaces carved from the landscape overlook stunning panoramic regional views, while new plantings define edges and thresholds. Brilliant seasonal drama is heightened along mown paths meandering through a rich tapestry of managed native meadow.

This beautiful master bathroom is situated in a Victorian townhouse in the heart of Notting Hill, London. The classic style and bold colour choices create a relaxing space with a unique style and elegance that is both classic and contemporary which was featured in the October 2014 issue of Homes & Gardens.
Drummond’s roll-top Spey cast iron bath in Salmon pink is the main feature of the room, with Drummonds’ brassware creating a warm, nostalgic feel. It has been left un-lacquered and un-polished to age naturally giving it a rich, golden colour and unique patina. The bath is drained through a Plunger waste unit based on a classic Victorian design.
Drummonds’ curved pipe Dalby shower and the WC are concealed in a custom-built enclosure in the back wall, behind a vintage art deco screen sourced from France. This beautiful piece is backlit, bathing the bath in a soft glow in the evening.
The soft shapes of Drummonds’ pop-up basin mixer taps with burnished walnut handles are paired with the contrasting contemporary cut of the square marble basin and square cornered cabinetry.
