Their kitchen was dark and inefficient. The cabinets felt cluttered and the storage was there, but not functional for this family. They wanted all new finishes; especially new cabinets, but the floors were going to stay and be refinished. No wall relocation was needed but adding a door into the dining room to block the view from the front into the kitchen was discussed. They wanted to bring in more light somehow and preferably natural light. There was an unused sink in the butler’s pantry that they wanted capped, giving them more space and organized storage was a must! In their living room, they love their fireplace because it reminds her of her home in Colorado, so that definitely had to stay but everything else was left to the designers. After all decisions were made, this gorgeous kitchen and living space came to life! It is bright, open and airy, just like our clients wanted. Soft White Shiloh cabinetry was installed with a contrasting Cocoa island. Honed Levantina Taj Mahal quartzite was a beautiful countertop for this space. Bedrosians Grace 4”x 12” wall tile in Panna was the backsplash throughout the kitchen. The stove wall is flanked with dark wooden shelves on either side of vent-a-hood creating a feature area to the cook area. A beautiful maple barn door with seeded baroque tempered glass inserts was installed to close off the pantry and giving them more room than a traditional door. The original wainscoting remained in the kitchen and living areas but was modified in the kitchen where the cabinets were slightly extended and painted white throughout. LED tape lighting was installed under the cabinets, LED lighting was also added to the top of the upper glass cabinets, in addition to the grow lights installed for their herbs. All of the light fixtures were updated to a timeless classic look and feel. Imbrie articulating wall sconces were installed over the kitchen window/sink and in the butler’s pantry and aged brass Hood classic globe pendants were hung over the island, really drawing your attention to the kitchen. The Alturas fixture from SeaGull Lighing now hangs in the center of the living room, where there was once an outdated ceiling fan. In the living room, the walls were painted white, while leaving the wood and stone fireplace, as requested, leaving an absolutely amazing contrast! Glamorous Barbara Berry Inspired Living Room. San Diego based designer Rebecca Robeson creates a dream lounge type living room for her clients by paneling over existing windows to create a center focal point for this Thomas Pheasant starburst mirror. With square shades on acrylic sconces the pair flank either side of the mirror in their own molded spaces to create this perfect symmetrically balanced focal point wall. Photo is of the great room in a transitional home. The objective was to create a modern look, while keeping the warm & cozy feel. The space was created for fictious clients who are well traveled and sophisticated, yet who love to put up the feet and get comfortable. The space allows for seating from the adjoining space to be pulled in for larger groups when entertaining. The architectural vocabulary draws upon British Colonial precedents in the West Indies with masonry-stucco walls, a standing seam metal hip roof with a kick at the eaves, a wooden balcony supported by wood brackets on the more public street facade, and a wooden gallery atop hefty masonry columns framed with wood brackets on the more private waterfront façade. These features have been developed and refined over hundreds of years to accommodate comfortable living in the Caribbean and have evolved into a living tradition of beautiful vernacular architecture that is, as a result, truly sustainable. The covered outdoor spaces in conjunction with the protected courts, deep overhangs and operable wood shutters provide a sustainable home that respects the context and climate, maximizes energy-efficiency and minimizes environmental impact. The simple massing and layout of this house with its simple and flexible spaces can accommodate many different family types and lifestyles and can even change uses as market demands change over time. These characteristics together with a timeless elegance and beauty support the firmness, commodity and delight required for truly sustainable living.

This property was purchased by a lovely empty nester couple that was looking for a home that offered primarily one level living. This late 1950’s rambler was outdated with sight line issues and included a claustrophobic kitchen that was separated from the main dining room. One of the challenges we encountered was figuring out a way to create an open floor plan with good sight lines while removing the structural obstacles including a supporting wall and a stand alone island that was too large for the size of the kitchen. In addition, we needed to add cabinets which would allow the kitchen to remain functional, open. We had a fairly small kitchen footprint and 8 ft. ceilings, which meant we had to be very strategic with our takeaways and additions to room. To remove the load bearing wall and open up the kitchen to the dining room, we cut the roof trusses and installed a beam flush with the ceiling. The two structural posts were designed into the cabinet façade to appear as a design element as opposed to a structural element. We designed short upper cabinets with glass against the 8 ft. ceiling to achieve the sight lines and open feeling the homeowners desired. New custom built cabinets were installed and finished with a custom oil rubbed glaze. A glass tiled backsplash, granite countertops, and Brazilian Cherry flooring upgraded this dated space into the modern upscale look the designer envisioned. We also removed the center island and added a smaller “floating” island on wheels that made the kitchen space more open and functional. Once the partition walls came down, the owners saw the designer's vision as a spacious, flowing floor plan centered on an elegant kitchen with a quaint lounging area flanked by a functional family room, living room, and dining room. By creating a functional design within the original exterior walls this allowed our client the ability to add detailed finishes and upgrade materials and still within their original budget.

This space was very large for a 2nd floor bedroom and had an attached full bath. It was wonderful to see all my ideas pulled together through the use of art, paint, texture, fabrics, to the rug and furniture. Built from the ground up on 80 acres outside Dallas, Oregon, this new modern ranch house is a balanced blend of natural and industrial elements. The custom home beautifully combines various materials, unique lines and angles, and attractive finishes throughout. The property owners wanted to create a living space with a strong indoor-outdoor connection. We integrated built-in sky lights, floor-to-ceiling windows and vaulted ceilings to attract ample, natural lighting. The master bathroom is spacious and features an open shower room with soaking tub and natural pebble tiling. There is custom-built cabinetry throughout the home, including extensive closet space, library shelving, and floating side tables in the master bedroom. The home flows easily from one room to the next and features a covered walkway between the garage and house. One of our favorite features in the home is the two-sided fireplace – one side facing the living room and the other facing the outdoor space. In addition to the fireplace, the homeowners can enjoy an outdoor living space including a seating area, in-ground fire pit and soaking tub.

Here is a view of the couch in front of the bay window. This beautiful window brings in a lot of natural light. We added beautiful shades to this. The couch and chairs make the room very welcoming and the glass coffee table gives it a more modern feel.
