Saturday June 20, 10:00 to 11:30am | Manhattan Midtown Sky Garden by Hank White, FASLA, and Aaron Booher of HMWhite This excursion to a spectacular workplace landscape will take visitors up high above the busy streets of Manhattan. The award-winning, 6,500 square-foot terrace of the Midtown Manhattan Sky Garden takes advantage of panoramic skyline views while providing an intimate garden backdrop to the mid-century-modern building’s newly-renovated interior workspace. Richly textured and seasonally diverse plantings include a dense blanket of drought-tolerant prairie grasses, wildflower perennials, and spring flowering bulbs, punctuated by flowering Crab Apple trees. At twilight, the garden evolves into a subtle stage set of textured plantings, rustling softly against the glow of a frosted glass parapet rail—a soothing space where workers can escape the conference room or the electrifying noise of the dense urban environment. This project, to create a unique home exterior using durable, low-maintenance products designed to work together, is memorable because of the support of volunteers, sponsors, builders, distributors and Ply Gem employees who dedicated their time, money and talents to rebuild a home for a deserving family and inspire a community.

Above the kitchen, the third bedroom feels like an extension of the living room with the oversized picture window. Today, this room is my office but when guests visit, the sofa easily pulls-out to an extra bed and this becomes an en-suite guest room.

This stunning custom bar says we love to entertain! You can access it from the foyer or the kitchen/dining area. Designed and crafted by Riverside Custom Cabinetry, the bar is flanked by stacked stone and features the same quartz top from the kitchen, wine fridge, beverage fridge, bar sink, and liquor storage. The upper cabinets are supported by custom metal brackets designed and crafted by one of our Michaelson Homes employees.

Inspiration for a large modern home design remodel in Chicago

The opportunity for many companies to switch to an eco-friendly approach these days is significant. There are hundreds of different ways your company can go green, from switching to recycled paper to allowing more employees to telecommute. One other way your company can go green, though, is to use rental furniture. This inviting office selection can be used in the reception area or in an executive office. Not sure how furniture rental fits into the eco-friendly picture? This option is a fairly simple one. Imagine for a moment that you’ve just expanded your office space for the upcoming busy season. You know you won’t use that new office space for more than three months, yet it still needs to be functional and look beautiful for both your employees and your clients. If you buy new furniture for that space, you’re going to have to get rid of it at the end of the busy season. If you buy used furniture for that space, it may not offer you the style you’re looking for. Office furniture rental is the perfect green solution in this case. It can provide you with the beautiful furniture you need without requiring furniture companies to use additional raw materials to create temporary furniture to meet your needs. The rental option can also help to ensure your office furniture doesn’t end up in a landfill at the end of the busy season. When you’re done with the furniture, simply have it picked up at your convenience by the furniture rental company. The heart of the eco-friendly movement is to reuse what you can, and office furniture rental is the perfect way to do that. It is even possible to design your new office space to support your green efforts. You may also opt to build a rental furniture package that plans for recycling throughout the office as well as one that makes employees more productive when they telecommute. Office furniture rental is a great way to help your company get a little “greener” this year.

Our first completely remote project. The client provided us with a hand drawn dimension of their space, along with a couple dozen photographs and a small video. From these resources we were able to draw up several concepts to accommodate their desire to entertain outside, as well as create a bold statement for the entrance. The concrete walkway juts out into asphalt driveway, extending the home’s “welcome mat” to friends, family, and employees. The owners wanted their home to be approachable, visually open, as well as provide a space for entertainment. The tall water columns frame the entrance and create a sense of coolness in the often sweltering temperatures of the inland valley. Wooden screens in front of the master bedroom windows are made out of old peach staves. They are left with a raw edge along the right side to acknowledge their history in supporting the heavy peach filled branches. The gas fire pit and bench overlooks their walnut orchard. The large lawn for their children extends into the orchard, creating a visual melding of the orchard into the home.
