Inspired by the villas of the Italian countryside, this traditional Tuscan home is powered by the latest in high-efficiency building techniques and systems. A Super-insulated envelope steeped in traditional detail gently moderates the interior temperature while reducing the home's heating and cooling demands. These demands are easily met by high-efficiency building systems that are scaled down to meet the reduced "active" needs. A tankless water heater with a recirculating pump instantly provides hot water to every room, a comfort and convenience that also saves energy and water.

This new riverfront townhouse is on three levels. The interiors blend clean contemporary elements with traditional cottage architecture. It is luxurious, yet very relaxed.
The Weiland sliding door is fully recessed in the wall on the left. The fireplace stone is called Hudson Ledgestone by NSVI. The cabinets are custom. The cabinet on the left has articulated doors that slide out and around the back to reveal the tv. It is a beautiful solution to the hide/show tv dilemma that goes on in many households! The wall paint is a custom mix of a Benjamin Moore color, Glacial Till, AF-390. The trim paint is Benjamin Moore, Floral White, OC-29.

Cole Street –– Cole Valley, San Francisco, California An upper level Edwardian flat was stripped down and rebuilt, with an emphasis on visually opening rooms up to one another and creating bright, free-flowing spaces. The back porch was rebuilt and opened to the kitchen, flooding the kitchen with light and expanding the space. Passages were added between rooms, walls were opened up and windows added, transforming a run down flat into a beautiful, light-filled home. Completed Spring 2005 by A.Murphy Construction. Key to the successful design were the homeowner priorities of family health, energy performance, and optimizing the walk-to-town construction site. To maintain health and air quality, the home features a fresh air ventilation system with energy recovery, a whole house HEPA filtration system, radiant & radiator heating distribution, and low/no VOC materials. The home’s energy performance focuses on passive heating/cooling techniques, natural daylighting, an improved building envelope, and efficient mechanical systems, collectively achieving overall energy performance of 50% better than code. To address the site opportunities, the home utilizes a footprint that maximizes southern exposure in the rear while still capturing the park view in the front.
