Cantoni Los Angeles
An American family with three young children, living in Geneva Switzerland wanted a vacation property in Los Angeles and were thrilled to find a brand new contemporary home 2 blocks from the beach in Redondo Beach. This 3,200 square foot home with four bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths was designed by Los Angeles architect Patrick John Killen, founder and Managing Principal of Studio 9 one 2.
Both the husband and the wife in this family have built careers in the fashion industry and wanted their home to reflect their international sense of style while still being a comfortable and playful environment for their children - and to honor the fact that this is - after all - a beach house.
Surf's Up!
The house is close enough to the beach to receive lots of ocean air and breezes; the property is also designed with an abundance of glass in large sweeping windows that flood this very open floor plan with natural light. The extra large patio that is revealed by sliding back several large glass panel doors expands the primary living area to include this outdoor space. The rooftop deck offers an additional private lounge area for daytime sunning or sunset cocktails with a teasing glimpse of the ocean and a panoramic view of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Each bedroom has its own private bath and there is a fireplace in one of the two living rooms and in the Master suite, to warm those South Bay evenings. All of this within a five minute stroll to the beach!
Surf's Up!
The interior designed by Studio 9 one 2 utilized an assortment of “green-friendly” materials, including cherry stained bamboo flooring. The colors of granite used in the chef-friendly kitchen accenting the stainless steel appliances are dark greens and rich browns .. all bathed in lots of natural light.
In keeping with Cantoni’s motto of ”Great Design is a Way of Life” Bernadette designed a playroom for the children where they could have their own space to just hang out, play video games and watch movies. Each bedroom reflects the personalities of the children and the Master Bedroom is a soothing and relaxing retreat for the parents.
On the main level the large open floor plan the Mercer sectional just beckons you to kick back and relax especially after spending the day at the beach. The dark oak Ritz dining table is perfect for entertaining the many friends and family who Surf's Up!get together for bar-b-ques and gourmet dining. The artwork has a wonderful punch of color to underscore the playfulness and Southern California beach vibe.
What better way to enjoy a vacation with family and friends! This is a great home away from home with plenty of space and light and only two blocks to the ocean. That’s why Jake says “Surf’s Up!”

Family room activities require some specific infrastructure, as well. Fireplaces and fireplace surrounds form the centerpieces of many families’ great rooms. A well-built surround can show off treasured family heirlooms or memorabilia and add storage to the room. Home Theater speakers and wiring make movie and video game nights thrilling. Many of these components require special network and electrical wiring installation, also. All of these practical elements should be considered as part of a new family room design.

We took this unfinished space and made a usable and beautiful space. We placed the bar in the corner to allow access from both sides of the basement, and is also perfect for viewing the TV. We designed the stone wall to look as if it were existing and gives an overall warmth and character to the basement. To help bring in the outdoor space, which looks over a secluded wooded area, we added the tree wall decals. All this makes for a comfortable and functionally designed space.

This avid biking family in Boulder, Colorado moved into a townhome without a garage. So, I turned the basement into multiple rooms including a bike shop, rec room, laundry room, bathroom and home office. We made use of every inch of space and gave them a new home they love.

For Ryan's bedroom we took our usual approach to decorating kids rooms which is to develop a scheme that will grow with a child into adolescence. We are confident that Ryan will have no problem transitioning his bedroom into a cool teen hangout when he decides to trade stuffed animals for video games and sports equipment. We paired classic black furniture with grey walls and some key pieces like an industrial spring table lamp, polyhedron light fixture and metal side table to create a boy's bedroom with character. This bedroom was designed to accommodate a teenager boy who will be pursuing in the music industry. We took in consideration the need to have a additional queen size bed for guests. This space can be used for gatherings to listen him playing tracks or just to have friends over to play video game.
The use of this space is endless! The rare picture of Basquiat in the desk area and a very interesting table lamp, vintage, and made of clay welcomes everyone who walks in, without forget to mentioned, we incorporated the hall entrance with the rest of the room, adding the ceiling pendant that reflects an abstract interesting pattern in the ceiling, making even more artsy and fun!

Odd space under the stairs in the living room that was dificult to put to use. The task was to utilize the as much available space under the stairs and come up with a way to incorporate all the elements of the entertainment centre: TV, media and video game players as well as all the media storage.

This would be great for a child's room; especially if the father has a *ahem* preference for old-school video games. This is definitely going to adorn our nursery.
