To save money, we used an existing house design our builder had worked on previously and made changes to the layout to open up the space and maximize on our incredible lake views. The first thing we changed was to flip the kitchen layout and move the stove and hood to the side wall to make room for a window and some open shelving over a farmhouse sink. This allowed us to maximize the partial lake views on the south side of the house and saved money on additional custom cabinets. We also removed a smaller pantry that was closing off the open space between the kitchen and living room. Instead, we turned the corner of the kitchen into a much larger, walk-in pantry that also saved us a bit on granite costs and added a ton of storage. Joe Fletcher and Claudia Uribe photography. The 2 floating staircases, connecting the ground floor to the second floor, were designed to look like stacked legos. In order to achieve this from a builder’s standpoint was very challenging. There were 20 + stairs to build on each staircase, with four sided natural stone finish. These required a whole lot of mitered corners and therefore, laser focused attention to detail. The handrails on these staircases are low iron glass built directly into the stone for a seamless look. The strategy behind the build of these staircases was foundationally very important. We needed to ensure stability and durability and so the internal structural plan and execution was just as important as the seamlessness of the finishes.

Jennifer and Raymond had found it at an estate sale during the time that they were building their home. They bought it for a song, and years later were shocked when they had it appraised. "This is by far one of the best scores I have ever come across!" Jennifer exclaims. While the openness of the space works perfectly with the couple's lifestyle, there are changes ahead for surfaces and cabinetry. "Because of the color palette in the house, it no longer works with anything else," Jennifer explains. "It's only 14 years old, but time has changed and its time is up!"
