While the hardware on this barn door is no joke, the construction of the door isn't particularly complicated; most industrious DIYers could pull this off. And the limed/bleached/whitewashed look makes the whole thing look effortless.

This is my dream door: a rustic barn-inspired door (that slides!) in a modern, updated space. This sliding barn door adds personality and a rustic modern style to the space. A standard white door in this room would have looked ho-hum.Tip: Barn doors that run from floor to ceiling help make the ceilings appear taller, much like curtains that are hung just below the ceiling and graze the floor.

You can picture this barn door actually on a barn, but it works just as well indoors. The original benefit of a barn door rail system was that it slid open even in heavy snow.

Add history to a new build with sliding barn doors. If you wish you lived in a rambling old farmhouse but must make do with a plain-Jane contemporary home, consider adding a salvaged wood barn door — this one modification can change the look and feel of your entire house.
