What Houzz contributors are saying:
Neutral trim works especially well with a colored ceiling, so consider using the same color overhead in a room where you want a more intimate feel, such as a sitting room or dining space.
We often see white moldings and a white ceiling with the walls painted the accent color. This room does the reverse with a warm taupe on the moldings and ceiling and white walls. It's a very attractive look.
For added interest, install a beadboard ceiling and then give it a coat of paint. In this space, the ceiling's warm mocha color ties in with the trim.
4. Downplay the TV. Even if your living room or family room usually has the furniture laid out for television viewing, think about moving it around for a party. Ignore the TV and arrange furniture for conversation. I love how the two sofas are placed back-to-back to create two seating areas. Most people think they don't have the space for this, but give it a try; you might be surprised!
However, don’t think a long, narrow room is a must to achieve the previous look. If you have more of a square or rectangular space, accomplish it with smaller furniture pieces so the groupings don’t appear heavy.
