Our designers also included a small column of built-in shelving on the side of the cabinetry in the kitchen, facing the dining room, creating the perfect spot for our clients to display decorative trinkets. This little detail adds visual interest to the coffee station while providing our clients with an area they can customize year-round. The glass-front upper cabinets also act as a customizable display case, as we included LED backlighting on the inside – perfect for coffee cups, wine glasses, or decorative glassware. A farmhouse style was achieved in this new construction home by keeping the details clean and simple. Shaker style cabinets and square stair parts moldings set the backdrop for incorporating our clients’ love of Asian antiques. We had fun re-purposing the different pieces she already had: two were made into bathroom vanities; and the turquoise console became the star of the house, welcoming visitors as they walk through the front door.

Think you don’t have room to host cocktail hour? Think again — a small home bar can be squeezed into just about any home, apartment or condo, no matter how space-compromised you may be. It simply requires thinking a bit more creatively about what a home bar should be. After all, you really just need a spot conveniently stocked with your favorite beverage and a few glasses! If you’re on the lookout for a little small bar inspiration, check out our guide below and browse our extensive photo gallery.

1. You Can Put It Just About Anywhere

Home bars can go almost anywhere. After all, the more unexpected the space, the more fun your mini cocktail party will be! Of course, you can tuck a small wet bar into your kitchen, which could entail a small sink, a wine refrigerator and a cabinet for glassware. You can also simply arrange a few of your favorite liqueurs on a shelf in the living room.

2. Make It Mobile

Bar carts have been experiencing quite the comeback lately, but for good reason! All you have to do is stock one up with a collection of beverages, glasses and mixing tools (if you want to be fancy), and then you can move it about whenever you want to use it.

3. It Doesn’t Have to Be a Wet Bar

In the same vein, keep in mind that a small home bar does not need a sink. Of course, having ice on hand helps, but you can always use a portable ice bucket.

4. Use the Basement

If you’ve got a basement, scope out some space to serve up some drinks. You could go all out with beer taps or just make sure you’ve got a fully-stocked fridge and plenty of glasses. To really make the spot a hangout, put up a dartboard!

5. Pull Up Some Chairs

Create a space where you’ll want to sit and linger for a while by incorporating a small bar in your living room. Set up a small table and a couple of armchairs, and keep a bottle or two on hand for casual socializing.

6. Install a Mini-Cellar In Your Kitchen

If you love a nice glass of wine, it may be worthwhile to have some bottle storage built in to your kitchen cabinetry, where you can display your collection. When you’re ready to serve one, chill it in a wine refrigerator below.

7. Hang Some Artwork

Even if all you’ve got room for is a small liquor cabinet and some counter room, make it feel like its own space by hanging some artwork on the wall above.

8. Transform a Hallway

Even a hall can become a de facto home bar. Put out a tray with your favorite beverages and some stylish glasses, and your setup can double as creative decor.
