beautiful! I am doing something similar around my fireplace. Can anyone advise re treating the log slices against shrinkage and/or cracking and sealing them?

I would start by cutting the dried (cured) logs into two inch slices and applying a coat of Benite Wood Conditioner and then a clear satin stain. A satin stain will not have to much of a gloss and keep the natural look.

you could use handsawn log rounds by setting the saw to about 1/2" thick cuts. then you could install by nailing to subfloor, or setting with a tile thinset material. then you would want to sand down the logs after installation (set as tightly as possible) and seal the wood. use the sawdust blended with an epoxy of sorts to create a "grout" to fill in the holes. i saw something like this done on a floor, on a home improvement TV show. i cannot remember exactly what they did, but it can be done.

If you want to go bold with a wood-coin them, a full wall of varying sizes makes a huge impact. Add tiered stacks of large wood slices as individual coffee tables, and the look in rustic at its grandest!More: Décor From the Forest and Sea12 Cabin-Chic Bathrooms

Modernizing Old West can be breathtaking. This updated space sports all the textures associated with the style — applied in a contemporary way. Since design is all about turning tradition on its head, the unexpected application of wooden log ends as wallcovering knocks that idea out of the park.

Well, technically this isn't about log storage, but it's so striking I had to grab your attention with it!
