Hello. We are rennovating a recently purchased home. We have red oak floors throughout that we want to refinish. Currently they are stained a "natural" finish, but we both hate the yellow tones of the oak. Our contractor has installed some new unfinished wood in a water damaged area. I want a darker, richer walnut, but my husband prefers the lighter look of the natural wood. I don't know how to get that without getting the yellow tones again. This look is one I would consider, but I know it's white oak. Any advice on options??? I'm paranoid about hating it in 5 years (no matter which we choose, lol). In our current house we have a medium tone oak that we also hate (too reddish-orange).

i would recommend that after you sand the existing floor down, bleach the hardwood to help bring down the red. If you want to go natural without the yellow tones I would apply a water base polyurethane in extra matte or satin. Always test your product on a sample board before doing your whole floor just to be sure you are happy with the results.

Need help with engineered white oak stain - We are building a home and will be installing engineered white oak. I want a natural lighter color. I will try to post some pictures. I looked at a home recently that only did a clear poly coat. It looked a little yellow to us. I do not like yellow. Any advice?

Thank you for your inquiry. We have found that European White Oak tends to be a little more yellow than American White Oak. Also the urethans can add yellow, some more than others. We use a few different techniques to help remove the yellow however, each board is different within its own character and will take stain differently so you will have a variation.

Thank you,

how did you achieve this color - We recently installed character grade white oak in our home. They put a natural finish on and it looks terrible. I had given them this picture and it looks nothing like it. It's very yellow and brown and gold. We may resand, could you please advise us on this white oak of ours? Warm Regards

Dear Ksehr,

Very sorry to hear about your new floor. Not sure where you purchased your flooring material from but they should have told you that white oak varies from lot to lot. The flooring you see in the image is European white Oak which we bleached, stained and finished with a waterbase polyurethane. We have always made samples for our customers before ever installing a hardwood floor.

Floors! - Love the floors! We are trying to achieve this color on our white oak floors. I know this is a custom stain but can you give some guidance on how to get this nice cool natural tone without getting yellowy/golden undertones? Thank you!

I chose this room because of the floor and wall textures. They make the room look smooth.

Love this! Color selection, combination, Wonderful! It looks so cozy, warm and inviting. The wallpaper selection w/ the floor and blinds works really well together...adding to the overall warmth. Nice Job!
