What is the tone of your house? If hardwoods are appropriate, they always add richness and value. Or if a you are more of a cool, modern feel, a product like FLOR is fun and the possibilities are endless. If you are looking to put carpet back down, a low pile woven or seagrass wall to wall is great and allows for layering an area rug on top.

I bought two like the chair pictured at Pottery Barn, but was a few years ago. They are the most comfortable chairs in my house!

Our notes are buried on this project but many lines have great versions of these items. A local designer or furniture showroom can help you to source items in your budget.

    2. Make a list of your favorite books of 2017. Pour yourself a mug of tea and peruse your bookshelves. Which books did you really love in 2017? Looking back over what you’ve read in the last year is a great way to sneakily edit your library and deepen your connection to the books that have won a place in your heart (and on your shelves). Keep an empty shopping bag for giveaways beside you as you scan the shelves, and when you come across a title you didn’t enjoy, add it to the bag.‘Not My Precious Books!’ — Pain-Free Ways to Declutter Your Library

Grounding the room with a red, well-worn Oriental rug is a great way bring in warm textiles. Library lights and an overhead lantern create a soft lighting scene. I think I'd reward myself for getting my work done while lounging in that overstuffed chair.

I like the accent details of the library lights and the shelf embellishments. Love the grass paper on the walls. Everything makes a great backdrop for the freestanding desk.
