my initial reaction was wow. however, after that wore off, it left me wondering about the structural integrity of the design, and how long it would be before some seals wore out. also, and i know some people are into simplicity, but i found the tile work to be boring. cool concept though. wish the poster would answer some questions about it. questions i would like answered. 1-is it glass or acrylic, and how thick is it? 2. how was the seal achieved. 3. are those seals eventually going to need maintenance. thx

Even though the rubber ducky is trying to steal the show, the tub wins the battle. Very unique.

Hi, I am a builder and did something similar in a swimming pool using 2-1/2" thick acrylic for a pair of double doors separating the inside and outside portions of the pool. My question has to do with structure and attachment. No doubt this wall needs to manage quite a load. What is the thickness of the material and how did it attach? Thanks very much. S. I guess it's not a big deal to construct something like this, if you think how fish tanks are constructed. But I would like to see the overall view. It does not seem like easy to get in and out.

Which drain and overflow is used here? - The drain would usually have to be one for a "custom shower base" including the use of a membrane, but I need to find one like this that is plug-able to be able to use the tub. Thanks.

How to get into the tub - Hi, I cannot see any doors or ladders - how do you get into the tub? I am guessing somewhere to the right of the camera shot - but what method is used? :) Love the design!

This is amazing! You're a genious. I'd like to replicate. So ditto on Skeating's question, plus what is the max. capacity the glass can hold? And did you use special grout and backing to keep water from leaking through the tiles over time? Does the surround require any special care? Estimate on useful life of the enclosure before it requires reseating/resealing?

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Pangaea Interior Design, Portland, OR added this to 19 Dream Tubs for Bath Lovers
This is the photo that got me busy writing this ideabook. I had never before seen a glass-sided bathtub, and this one completely appeals to my minimalist tendencies. The architect, David Stern, says the client wanted this custom made tub for the kids bathroom and wanted it to feel fresh and fun. Well, he succeeded. But here is what I want to know: Why should the kids have all the fun? I have a rubber ducky. Don’t you? Doesn’t everybody?Hire an expert bathroom designer to get your dream tub
Vanessa Brunner added this to Houzz Tour: Modern Home, Full of Character
This amazing bathtub (which we originally fell in love with in this ideabook) was installed in the children's bathroom. Its beautiful and simple structure was achieved by wedging a thick glass sheet between two tile walls. The idea came from the clients, who were inspired by a photo that they had saved from an old magazine. "We love detail, so there are always special moments in our projects," says Stern. "And in this house, the glass-front bathtub was one of those moments."
Lisa Frederick added this to How to Work With a Plumber
Confirm charges for parts. Most plumbers keep basic parts and supplies on hand, but sometimes they have to buy specialty items after starting the work. Be sure you know what the markup is and how you'll be charged. The plumber may ask that you choose and purchase decorative items such as faucets in advance, with his or her input about specs. That way, you can ensure the look you want and avoid time-consuming exchanges.Be clear on who cleans up. A good plumber will never leave you with a sloppy work area. However, if the project necessitates prying out tile, pulling off baseboards or other structural damage, not all plumbers can or will make those repairs. Ask beforehand whether this is the case, and plan accordingly.

But if you do have a tub and for some reason have a problem finding it, a duckie can serve as a buoy to guide you toward it.
