Hey Lauren, it's Sherwin Williams Tony Taupe. The light of the flash makes it look a little more Gold in the picture...I have told folks before that Benjamin Moore's Cumin is a close color to what it looks like in this pic. If you have more questions I know I have answered them...just scroll down to the bottom when you are looking at pictures and that's where the questions and answers are on all photos on Houzz. Plus the cost of designer, project manager, permits, dumpster, port o Jon, site prep... In our market we have to 'rent' the blocked parking spaces taken up by a job site dumpster, literally $2000 gone right there. And these spaces are normally free, no meters! A professional remodel costs a lot of money. Some people can handle some of these tasks themselves and get equally nice results while saving money.

Hi there sdmgrace, I've said it before, light plays such a huge factor in a room. Go get and test the paint on the wall...paint large areas and see what it does. If Tatami and Totally are too rich, half formula them or mix your own color! Benjamin Moore has has a color you may's called Baked Cumin # 1062. The biggest thing to remember is that paint is just a's not the star of the show! It's easy to obsess about paint so try not to drive yourself mad! Good Luck and Happy Decorating! :) Jo McKeown

Hi Bubusika, Indeed...Tony Taupe is the color! Professional photography often affects color in photos. You can see how the paint looks different in the hallway area. If you want a color that is more Gold (like the section of wall above the pantry door) try Benjamin Moore "Cumin". That might do the trick for you! Happy Decorating! Hi Kathleen, These cabinets are Alabaster with a Pewter glaze. Everybody's idea of what is too white is different so it's hard to help you on a computer. I can however offer a suggestion. Copy paper is pure white. Bring some with you so see can hold the door sample over it to see how "White" it really is. Most people are surprised at how pretty all of the whites that don't look white on a sample look in their homes. Look at the pictures in the brochure of the Cloud you like it? I would have no way of knowing if Columbia's Cloud White is the same BM Cloud White unless I went to the paint store, got a sample and took it to the cabinet shop! One more thing...stop worrying so much about this. The cabinets are just one part of a pulled together kitchen. There is backsplash, countertops, appliances, paint , hardware and lighting going in there too. You can actually adjust the temperature of white with the selections you put with it. To get more confidence and a beautiful kitchen please consider hiring a designer to watch over your shoulder. Many will accept small projects like this as filler work. You are about to spend a lot of your hard earned money and for under $500.00 you could get professional help for a few hours to avoid epic fail and build the kitchen of your dreams! Small price to pay. Best of luck to you! Sincerely, Jo McKeown/Great Spaces!

Hi, I'm building a very similar kitchen. It has very darks floors, white cabinets with a dark island. I have decided to use chrome for the cabinet pulls and hinges, faucets etc. But the doors, windows & closets hardware(handles and hinges) throughout the house are in ORB. How do I tie that in to the chrome fittings in the kitchen and bathroom. Would it be better to do all the light fittings in ORB or can I do chrome. What about in the bathrooms? I have chrome for all the fixtures and pulls. Again the door hardware is ORB. I'm afraid the ORB will look a bit disjointed in the entire scheme. I'd really appreciate your input.
  • earubin

I love this question and "thank you" Great Spaces of answering it! I've been admiring this kitchen for over a year. In spite of "everybody else" telling me I need to match the ORB in the rest of my house, I've been wanting polished nickel pulls. I love this mix, Great Spaces. Thanks for inspiring!

I'm realizing that you were thinking that the cabinets were painted on site. No...this is a new kitchen. You can't get the Alabaster color at a paint's the manufacturer's formulated color. If you are painting cabinets and you need a suggestion try Sherwin Williams Dover's a nice neutral white with no hidden undertones. Glazing later is a whole other story,,,I don't suggest it...unless it is professionally applied. Hope this helps KJ! Bye for now, Jo

Hi! I love the island pendants! I notice they are not the same as the one over the table, but they seem to work together. Are they from the same style, or did you just select them based on material and preference? I have a chandelier over my table, similarly placed as yours, and want to put pendants over my island. I am afraid to get something that is not of the same make, although I think I can find one that works - what are your thoughts on doing this? Thanks!

Hardware Resources "Lindos" Collection is what this is. They were purchased through the company that we bought the kitchen through...Founders Kitchen and Bath in Alpharetta GA. If you don't like these when you see them online just go with a pull that has clean simple lines and to get that higher end look, spend the extra money and get the longer pulls. Anything longer than the standard 4" spread with give to this result. Hope that helps! Jo

Hi Kathy, Oh my goodness, those measurements are long gone from my mind now! Actually though, if you's a typical 23" cabinet to hold the wall oven and it's a nine foot ceiling so it looks about eight feet tall. If you are planning a kitchen, just remember that unless it's custom made, cabinets come in a few certain sizes so you can't make a mistake! Good Luck on your project! Jo

Good Morning C, So sorry for the delay answering your busy right now trying to make new Great Spaces! for you guys to see! Most of these appliances were reused. The oven's and cooktop were Thermador, the Microwave was GE. We added the 48" Kitchen Aid refrigerator and dishwasher. I love Kitchen Aiid's large built in refrigerators for their reliability...these products are so expensive, I expect them to be mostly trouble free and the Kitchen Aid seems to be more reliable than the rest. Hope this helps in some way...Jo

Hi Camelle, Sorry for the delay answering your question. I'm working long hours trying to make new Great Spaces! for you guys to see! :) This hood is discontinued! Google Hood Images and you will see many images of this style and who's they are. The most important thing about these products to know id the amount of noise they produce. Some are very loud! Good luck to you! Jo

Hi wilson, You need enough wall to hold a minimum 30"inch cooktop and cabinetry on each side of it to pull that off. You really should look at that on paper! Have you gotten a drawing from someone in your local area? The place where you are buying your cabinetry can help you...hope that helps in some way, Jo

Hi Corcutt, No...that was the color from the manufacturer. You will be on you own painting your cabinets. I can tell you that a good white is Sherwin Williams Dover White. Sample it and see what you think! Hope that helps...Jo

Hi Christine, You know...that's the nature of all semi-flush mounts. Because they are so close to the ceiling you can't help but get that shadow. I know exactly what you are talking about. The recessed only serve to light the room in general and are not worth the investment to rid one of shadows. There are only two options that I can offer you...Purchase a Hundi Lantern or similar and relocate the semi flush to a hallway or install dimmers for the times when you want to show off the kitchen and learn to ignore it the rest of the time! It's just the nature of a semi flush light...hope that was somewhat helpful...Jo

In this case we used Custom Building Products "Winter Gray". There are many brands of grout though and all the colors are different. These are glass tiles so always use unsanded grout! Quick Tip- When you have a less textured tile (like glass) use a grout that is slightly will give the wall more texture from a distance. If you are using a tile like tumbled marble choose a slightly lighter or the same color, that way the tiles texture is the star of the show, not the grout!

Hi Erin, sorry those exact measurements are gone from my head! I can tell you that the spaces were at least 42" wide on the fridge side and probably 48" on the sink side. 36" is the rule for the minumum you need to pass comfortable through a space so don't go below that! (To me, that's pushing it!)

Hi GG, Back from vacation and thanks for waiting. No picture but I can tell you we did install VERY sturdy simple wood shelving spaced 16" apart then painted the walls the same as the room, Sherwin Williams "Tony Taupe SW7038" and the Shelving is the same color as the trim which is Sherwin Williams "Dover White SW6385". Made for a nice finished look with strenght to hold small kitchen appliances too! Hope it helps! Jo

Hi Katy! Thanks for waiting...I'm back from my vacation and answering as fast as I can! :) This is Emser Tile's glass subway tile in Fog. The grout color is Custom Building Products Winter Gray. Winter gray is a little darker that the gray of the glass and I did that on gives glass tile more visual texture on the wall. If you match it perfectly it won't look like little bricks, just a slick wall of glass. Don't forget to use unsanded grout with glass! Best of Luck and Happy New Year! Let me know if you need anything else, Jo

      3. Taupe and cappuccino. Granite counters with a warm tone look beautiful surrounded by other rich, warm hues like taupe and cappuccino. Making some of the cabinetry white keeps the space from feeling too dark and heavy.Walls: Tony Taupe, Sherwin-Williams

Shane D. Inman added this to 8 Cabinetry Details to Create Custom Kitchen StyleMar 15, 2013

Furniture toe kicks. Many modern kitchens have an industry-standard toe kick. The recommended amount of space is 4 1/2 inches to where the cabinet meets the floor. This makes it more comfortable for your feet when you're working close to the counter. For areas that are not so task oriented, you can apply a furniture toe kick, which is more detailed and allows the cabinetry to look like a piece of freestanding furniture. A furniture toe kick can be seen on the edge of this beautiful island.
