I don't know about the USA versions of these houses but in Australia most of them are cavity brick walls which are at least 10 inches (250mm) thick and this would not require any false backing. The depth of the reveal as depicted would be correct as such a window is mounted on the exterior brickwork. This mean with the depth shown the shelve would approx 8-10 inches deep.

Thank you for your interest in our project. On this project the window seat is set within a bay window. If it were not, one option would be do have a false back as you suggest.

What brand of windows are these?

Thank you for your interest in our project. The windows installed on this project were custom wood windows, the manufacturers' info is no longer in our archives.

How low is this window to accommodate the window seat? Would bottom of window at 18 in work?

Thank you for your interest in our project. The bench shown in this photo is ~18" to the top of the cushion. Remember to consider the squishiness of the cushion and the amount that the cushion will compress when sat upon. We recommend trying out the bench/cushion height to confirm that it works for you.

Do you have recesses for shutters or curtains behind the bookcase depth?

Thank you for your interest in our project. The window seat is set within a bay window. There is no recess to the sides of the window. However, there is a slot in the soffit above the window for window treatments.
