We too love the sink. We are in Minneapolis and would like to find and see a sink like this. can you help?
  • PRO
    Sawhill Kitchens
This sink was custom designed & built for Sawhill Kitchens and for our clinet. Unfortunately the manufacturer went out of business, but it is possible to have a different company build one that is similar.

What type of slate did you use for the floors?

  • lizcage
is there a way to find out what the flooring is and where it can be purchased

We've been checking our files in order to answer your question, but the general contractor supplied the slate, and he just moved to California from Minnesota.

Wood countertops are beautiful, and the nice thing is that they are to some extent - "repairable." But they do require some maintenance at least twice a year depending upon your usage.

Wood tops need to be re-oiled and sometimes scratches need to be sanded out. Wood countertops, like this one made by Spekva USA (a Danish company), use an oil with a special blend of Linseed Oil, Bee's Wax, Carnuba Wax & Parafin wax. Spekva recommends re-oiling every 3 months or as needed. You don't want wood tops to dry out otherwise they will crack and can actually shrink. Another good oil that is used is called Tung Oil witch includes Mineral Spirits.

Water or moisture is the largest enemy of wood tops. Too much or too little will adversely effect the beauty and performance of your wood tops. Keep them oiled so they don't dry out and spills should always be wiped up and not allowed to dry on the wood countertop. Wood can stain, though the oils do help protect the wood from some stains.

Wood tops are beautiful, safe and practical, but they do require some TLC at times. If you'd like more information about the care and maintenance of wood tops feel free to email us at info@SawhillKitchens.com.

We happen to sell Spekva Oil on our site if any one is looking for this particular product to help protect their wood tops.

Is the countertop soapstone?

  • PRO
    Sawhill Kitchens
No, the countertops by the range are a black granite with an "antique" or honed finish while the island tops are wood with a concrete sink.

Yes a black glaze was used on the cabinetry.

I would like the sink be somewhere else and the island be solid with nothing on it

    Sawhill Kitchens
That could certainly be done depending on the size and shape of your kitchen space. A good kitchen designer would have to consult with you on your thoughts. let us know if we can help you with hourly design consultation.

Zoeycasey, in case you can't locate the supplier, or would like an additional source, I'm a concrete artisan just outside the Twin Cities Metro Area, but would be glad to talk with you about creating a piece for your home, same for you Sawhill, if you would like to add another supplier to your vendor list. Feel free to visit my profile page and view some of my projects. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I'll be more than happy to answer.

Hello - we are glad you like the lighting. The manufacturer is Troy Lighting and it was part of their Camelot Series. http://www.troy-lighting.com/contents/index.asp

I'm sorry to say that it looks like the Camelot collection and this fixtures has been discontinued. But maybe you can find something else on their website that you like. Or visit your local lighting store and show them what you're looking for and they may have something similar.

Is there a kit to cover fridge with wood cabinet cover?

- Refrigerator cover

  • PRO
    Sawhill Kitchens
That particular refrigerator is a Sub-Zero brand and their units have kits already built into the unit if that's the look you want. Or they have full Stainless steel fronts too. Many manufacturer's have units made to specifically have wood fronts applied, and some may have a separate kit that can be purchased. You would want to check with the company supplying your refrigerator to see what is available. There is also a company called Frigo Design that use to offer trim kits for old refrigerators. So if that's what you need you could check them out at:

The cabinet stain is a custom stain with a black glaze by Plato Woodwork and the sink is a custom made concrete sink. If you are in the Minneapolis area we can supply you with a similar sink, but if not I would just show the picture to a supplier or dealer of concrete countertops in your area.
